[1.3] Jay's Spectral Throw CoC Shadow - Acro/Ondar's/Evasion/Vaal Pact

Hey

How do u sustain mana without double ring from elreon, you keep a mana flask ?
How do you feel about 6L Voll's Protector? Does it make resists too hard to get? Or is the evasion on your chest what's important? Is Saffell's even worth using with the acro nerf? You have 12% block and get tops, 80% of that.

I plan on adding PoI with Haste and using AB / Ice Spear (maybe FP) / PCoC (maybe FP) on CoC links

Hey thanks for posting, before Elreons rings I used a lvl 3 clarity and only LMP instead of GMP. One Elreons ring makes it easier, 2 is just complete quality of life. My ST costs 1 mana, without any regen on gear/tree/clarity I out regen the cost. Easily.

I considered a 6L Voll's but it does make it hard to resist cap, plus you'll lose a bunch of potential life from gear. And lastly its tough to colour your links right. But if you are in a softcore league, its easy extra dps. Evasion is just the best base for a 6link because its easiest to colour, and armour/es are both halved by Acrobatics. Basically my 6link using PCOC is like a 5link Voll's. So the extra gem slot is just more dps. Though having this extra dps is pretty much just overkill anyway.

I swap in haste for grace when someone else is using grace. Or if its an easy map. I generally run ice spear now rather than AB. I like the shotgun from ice spear and everything is always frozen. Plus with maligaros and tree my crit multi is near 300%. Ice spear either shotguns multiple mobs up close, or crits hard every mob it hits at a range. Plus ice spear and fireball look badass when they overlap.

Saffell's adds 4% max resist. Thats the biggest thing. If you were using all ice dmg and PoI at lvl 20 then you would essentially have the same effect for reflect. But having 79%+ all resists is pretty nice for just general survivability. I can facetank Igna Phoenix in a 75 map and my hp doesn't move. Not many builds can do that. The 10-15% extra spell block is just a bonus. In a build where we cast thousands of medium dmg spells, 15% block is enough to save you vs reflect.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been working on theorycrafting and I'm going to use Romira's and go for the extra skill point on merc. I'm playing the build now at Lv58 (started at 31 because I was excited) and it's fantastic. I want to use fireball/AB/arc to cover the whole gambit and power charges are nice, but if I get high enough base crit/aspd, won't be necessary (thus Romira's to get the chain started)

Additionally, I want to support grace / haste / AND heralds / (maybe purity ele). I was considering using Alpha's howl for this purpose, but I'm not sure if stats (str/int are hard for me to keep maxed for my skills right now) or resists will be too hard to cap. I support my heralds on one of my daggers with reduced mana since it's perfect there

Follow-up edit: So I was trying to figure out what I want this build to look like end-game and was doing the math. Here's an edited L100 skill tree (bandits: oak/krait/alira)

5 PCharges, using AB / FB with CoC. Requires a 6L to add PCOC (I'm currently just using tabula). Alpha's Howl helm with reduced mana / purity ele / grace / haste (91% reserved mana at Lv21 gem). Prism Guardian supporting heralds (21.329% reserved life). I like how this is looking.

My biggest struggle is hitting the resists cap (not negative, but 25/55/5 is not ideal) so I get gimped at times. I don't have a CWDT setup yet, but my evasion is pretty high

I had to get some pretty good gear before I could hit resist caps with a tabula, saffells, and maligaros. Using an alphas is just one more unique that doesnt have life or dual/tri res. You are going to need insane jewellery/boots in order to meet resist cap with this. Or get rid of that tabula for a 6link with life and resists.

As a side note, CoC is pretty unsafe without capped resists. I have over capped resists now because I want to make sure Im safe against ele weak/frostbite/flammability mobs and reflect packs.

Do you feel defensive enough?
Here is a variant that raises projectile damage from 55% to 85% and gives higher accuracy and attack speed. It lowers evasion rating by 20pp and life by 12pp, and raises armor by 24pp. I came up with this, because I dont like the stun recovery nodes.

edit: Also, how about kinetic blast instead of spectral throw? I don't know anything about it, except it has high chance to proc, if you can believe that quote
"
Kinetic Blast can pierce, but even if it pierces it still creates "Bubbles" on hit and continues on. If it hits another target it can pierce again or stop, causing another set of bubbles. Factor all of this in with Greater Multiple Projectiles and we get many potential chances for Cast on Crit to proc (to a maximum of 20/second based on the 1.3 nerf to the gem) against a dense pack, but normally it doesn't last that long.

from http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1176460.

Looking at the video, it really seems to proc very much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA1vY9ak-Fk

I'll be trying out a variant of your build next season, using an Ungil's instead of a shield, and Iron Reflexes instead of Acro/Phase Acro. I don't get as much playing time as most, and doubt I'll get much past lvl 80 on the non-hardcore league. So before I waste my time, does this seem viable? Or would alternating weapons in Spectral Throw hurt dps that much?

Look, man. Video games are hard, okay?
So ... I decided I wanted to make a CoC build and I liked the look of this (thanks for the write-up!). Currently, I'm at 73 and working through lower level maps with ease. Very fast paced game play which I thoroughly enjoy.

I am currently using a 5L EV chest without PCoC and it is working fine but I am now looking to how I can improve with a 6L. Ideally, a 6L Voll's would be great but with minus mana cost jewelry I'm finding it hard to cap resists that way. Also, you lose a big chunk of life potential and I find that is really needed from as many pieces as possible.

Currently, I am thinking of finding a 6L EV or EV/ES chest that I can craft to get a bunch of life as well as the needed resists. Probably will still run PCoC for awhile until I can get my crit a little bit higher (currently only 57% without charges) but damage output doesn't seem to be an issue so far.

Any other thoughts around chest choices here?

Sorry for the delayed response, I haven't been able to use my pc for a few weeks. Dual Ungil's is completely viable and I often use them while lvling. I would recommend to go with a rare dagger and shield later on though. Saffell's is incredible for spell block and resist cap, and a rare dagger with high crit and aps will way outshine your Ungil's.

I personally prefer a 6linked rare with life and dual/tri resists. If your crit feels too low just use PCoC as your 6th link. Eliminates the need for a Voll's completely and its a blue gem so it will always be interchangeable with a 3rd spell. Often in a party I can't use 3 spells in my setup anyway or people just qq. And Voll's is hella annoying to 6link and colour for this build.
Wonderful guide! I'm having a lot of fun w/ this build. After playing this build and trying to understand why you made certain decisions, I think I have a better understanding for skill/gem synergy.

thanks so much!
