Cool to see it in action. But i have a problem with your skill tree. I saw what you said in your post. But my concern isn't with health. It's with crit. I am making a Crit Staff Flicker strike build right now and this is what i came up with.

https://poebuilder.com/character/AAAAAgAA2E356Gh02mKUoMautz5BhzwtcqnE9lnzrKrJZ0FyvJrtRNWLSi6npWaewBqQVRo4Jy_60jbpJKoWb-Nqj0YdFFiuXqUTcfuLkn33Mphv3CPlz2BDbj0DljsogwlvnncHhxOcpJu1wzrKSg-rUzVtbLVIcFIqC_PqcNWJ09i9_gph4iaVFr9sjJ2qNj25fIwL7LBd8g5IY0OMNlVLYqwxnqZXOuHyRTQxhX0WQGjyr2xM_4Y7NI5r2QSzogDwH-RRZ5uuPnfjOQ4Jlpd57w5QR18_FCAt0p8-

This tree has more health %. But the big thing about the 1.3 update is that it nerfed crit pretty hard with 2h weapons on the templer side.

your build only has 315% crit chance. Which for staves is pretty low considering most staves have a crit chance base around 8-8.75.

My tree has a Crit chance of 530% also has 158% increase life.

I get that you want blast radius for SS. But amplify is honestly enough for the radius of SS.

Honestly man i am not bashing your build. Glad to see the 2h crit staff is doing good. Glad you are having fun with it. Just putting my two sense.

Btw, Does the 10% chance to gain a power charge on crit work pretty good? i figured 10% is pretty low, but i guess if your hitting a lot it wouldn't be a problem.

Area of Effect not only help Static Strike, but also Herald of Ash and its prolif, and Leap slam. Basically everything that we deal damage with.
It's a good idea to start with scion and grab both side of the tree. But as a flicker you don't grab any of the templar elemental nodes, for my build those nodes are essential. They don't contribute to crit but give me base damage.
Btw Smashing Strike gives endurance charges on crit instead of power charges, and it does work pretty well.
2.0 ain't no melee patch.
So I tried this with a respec and a staff I literally found yesterday. Turns out I hate the mechanics of SS, I kill the entire pack with one melee swing and burn prolif before the explosions actually happen. So I changed SS for LS and now it's going places.

My spec is different tho, it's not even remotely the same build anymore, but I'd like to share my findings.

Spoiler

As you can see, I didn't go pure light and got leech from the tree together with a lot more crit. With charges up I'm at 75k dps and around 85% crit. My SS dmg was also around 66k-70k.

I'm at 4k hp, but my defenses could be better. Still, I survive reflect packs just fine.

This is awesome.

Exactly what I'm starting - glad to see for once that someone's done it perfectly already.

So after actually building the mara, I think I'm doing the build much more effectively.

Already at 60k with charges on a 5L and 52k without. Better defenses than yours, and speed clearing high maps.

With your staff and my setup, I'd be near 80k.

Would love to see your tree.
I'm supposing you didn't use lightning penetration and didn't go up to the witch area and instead specced a lot of 2 hander notes.

Can you share your tree? I started with mara too, thanks

Just curious, what's damage look like without an Abyssus? I'm level 76 but missing it because I'm poor.

Without Abyssus you lose about 40% of your damage. It's an item that carries you dps-wise even you have a bad weapon.

hey i got some questions.. im doing this build im only lvl 67..

i only got like 2,2k hp and max hp on everything except jewels. its still shitty gear..

is it only me that got a problem with relying on leech from curses ?.. if i meet a boss with no mobs around i am fucked ?..

dunno if im wrong or what.. but its kinda pissing me off. that said, man HoA with ele prof is amazing.. :D

I had very low life around 60 but after I bought a belly chest my life pool works fine for me.
About mana leech, I run a separate self-cast warlords mark in case HoT cant sustain itself. In fact when I was leveling, I used curse on hit leap slam and a second self-cast curse, this setup also plays pretty well and have no reliance on HoT.
The lack of leech is certainly a drawback of pure ele builds, if you are confident enough that you can identify every ele reflect pack before you engage, you can switch off purity of lightning and run clarity.

Hi,hope you have a great new year for starters :).
I found this staff on torment

Wanted to ask if this is any good for a build like yours.
I specc'd into this build this week to try and revive my templar. It is very fun, but very challenging to play this guy now. Thanks for figuring out how all of this stuff works. Strangely, I find myself using leap slam more often than static strike. Static strike feels pretty clunky, but definitely works great if you can get a large enough pack to surround you.
