What makes Discharge viable for single target is the dual cursing + elemental equilibrium. This makes the fire resistance even on uniques go negative which results in huge burns.
What even works better is getting some trash mobs around the boss and proliferate a burn from them to the boss (white mobs have lower fire res).
Using this method I've been able to 1 shot almost all bosses in the game, including 76+ map bosses.

I am not familiar of how good burning damage works in 1.3, my build was played in 1.0 I believe.
Anyway, I took the liberty of leveling a Fire Pen gem and an Increase Burning Dmg gem. In the end, will have to see how to link them, what to keep and what to drop.
One more thing: in the build tree, i see the Whispers of Doom is not taken. However, in the video, it seems you apply 2 curses with ball lightning. Am I missing anything?

1. Yes thanks for noticing, it's fixed now.
2. The damage on a 7 charge discharge will be higher than the damage of a conc effect fire trap.

You're right, tree is fixed now.
I don't use the fire pen gem right now, because I already lower mob resistances by about 130% with currsing and ee, so the extra 33% isn't worth the gem slot.
Same goes for increased burning damage; not really worth it when you already have so much fire, ele and burning damage from the tree and gear.
If you get a 6L though, those are some good options you can use, next to life leech and empower.

Nope; she can't be ignited so Atziri would be pretty tough.
Maybe if you get a different setup with flame surge or incinerate or something she would be doable.

Playing the build in torment, would running Blood rage, and then using pyre and picking up a couple of frenzy charge nodes increase damage significantly enough to build around it?

Pyre would kill this build because the mobs shatter and hence wouldn't proliferate burns after they die.
