[2.0] Sando's Necro Explosive Arrow Guide (Cheap)

Hi. Welcome to Sando's Necro Explosive Arrow Guide Thread

  • 28/7/2015 - changed skill tree & updated Video
  • 25/7/2015 - changed skill tree (removed Amplify, Blast Radius)
  • 24/7/2015 - changed skill tree & gem link. not using windscream anymore. we have 5 zombies
  • 22/7/2015 - changed gem link
  • 21/7/2015 - changed skill tree (remove Snowforged, take Explosive Impact)
  • 20/7/2015 - changed skill tree (spec out of 8% increased radius of Area skills(2points))
  • 19/7/2015 - changed skill tree & gem setting

  • Endgame viable with cheap gears. it costs like 5ex.
  • Fast map clearing with AoE attack.
  • Tanky build by using zombies and Cloak of Defiance
  • No worry about reflection (but do not stack 5 times)
  • No worry about "Players Recover Mana 40% Slower" mod
  • Have 6 sockets
  • You can do Magic Found Setting
  • Feels like a discharger when you keep shooting EA at a wall.
  • Beginner friendly build. EA mechanic might be unfamilar though.

  • Lack of dexterity. so you need to get about 80 dex from your gears.

Passive skill tree is complete at level 95

lvl.95 - 117 point

Leveling skilltree

Create Witch character, and when entering Act1, you can get Magma Orb and Raise Zombie skill gem.
Before you get EA skill gem. leveling with those gems.
Allocate points to Grave Intentions and Lord of the Dead node, It is really fun that you lead a pack of zombies.

Explosive Arrow

First, you need to understand how EA works.
When you hit the target with EA, it will explode after a period of time.
When it explodes, it deals fire damage to the target, and then the target is dealt burning damage that is proportional to fire damage from the last hit.

EA can stack 5 times.
New shot resets the fuse stacks on enemies
You will want full stack because more stacks mean higher fire dmg and burning dmg.
It will not stack over 5 times, so you should be careful about it.

Elemental Equilibrium
It is really important mechanic in my build.
When you choose EE in skill tree, it makes things interesting
If you hit an enemy, it will give +25% resistance to element used and -50% resistance to the other elements.

For example,
If you hit an enemy with x-y lightning damage mod

  • the first hit is considered basic attack, so it will give +25% resist to lightning element and -50% resist to fire/cold elements
  • And then the shot explode and it deals fire dmg, so it will give +25% fire resist and -50% lightning/cold resist
  • Because EA gives the secondary burning dmg, you use Frenzy at this time and it gives -50% fire resist.

Therefore EE can greatly boost damage. You should stack 5 times and then use Frenzy for highest DPS.

Item setting

Necro EA build doesn't require expensive gears.
I use Quill Rain for its Attack Speed so that I can stack as fast as i can
It doesn't have to be Quill Rain. You can use +1 gem lvl or +2 gem lvl Thicket Bow.

Before you find Cloak of Defiance, pick Mind Over Matter in the passive tree.

The helmet should have +2 to level of Socketed Minion Gems mod.

"Adds an additional Arrow" mod is good for Quiver.

You need a high mana regen for spamming EA skill. Try to look for a mana regen mod in amulet and rings

As I mentioned above, you need cold or lightning dmg to lower enemy's fire resist.
That means "Adds x-y Cold Damage" or "Adds x-y Lightning Damage" mod is necessary.

Attack speed is best mod cuz we have not enough aps.

useful mod

Prefixes
  • (14 to 16)% increased Fire Damage
  • Minions have (8 to 12)% increased maximum Life
  • (5 to 7)% increased maximum Life
  • (6 to 8)% increased Attack Speed with Bows

Suffixes
  • (2 to 3)% chance to Ignite, (3 to 5)% increased Ignite Duration on Enemies
  • (10 to 12)% increased Projectile Damage
  • (10 to 12)% increased Area Damage
  • (3 to 5)% increased Attack Speed
  • (2 to 4)% increased Attack and Cast Speed
  • Minions have (6 to 10)% to all Elemental Resistances

  • prepare Purity of Fire for Atziri
  • For more damages, you can link Concentrated Effect instead of Elemental Proliferation.
  • EA - Fire Penetration - Elemental Proliferation - LMP gives you enough damage for early leveling.
  • When you have 5 links, you link 2 lvl Empower gem. if you don't have Empower gem, link Increased Burning Damage.
  • When you have 6 links, you link Increased Burning Damage for last one.
  • link Phase Run with CWDT. Note that when using any skills, you lose phase run effect.

Zombies will take hit instead of you, so you won't lose any HP.
That's why you need to have flasks with "Grants (x) % Of (local flask) Life Recovery To Minions.

Try to have Eternal mana flasks with "50% Increased Recovery Speed" mod.

  • Normal - help Oak (+40 to Maximum Life)
  • Cruel - all kill (Passive Skill)
  • Merciless - all kill (Passive Skill)

I'm still playing my build and streaming as well.
While crit EA build increases DPS with crit dmg, my build uses Elemtental Equildbrium to lower fire resist and increase DPS. My build is also very effective because i use 2 curses. I haven't played crit EA build that much, so i can't tell exactly what's good and bad about it.

Hi can you please explain how this build is free from reflect? I was trying out EA earlier today and ele reflect was kicking my ass.
EDIT: map w/ ele reflect + rare w/ ele reflect hurts otherwise fine.

If you stack 5 arrows on a reflect monster, it's obvious that it will hurt you hard.
So, it's better to stack only 2~3 times. You can still deal tons of damage with just 2~3 stacks anyways.

Burning damage not being scaled by increased fire damage was true in beta. They changed that (forgot what patch). Today it applies: Increased fire damage (along with projectile damage, and aoe modifiers) scales the initial explosion of EA thereby increasing the base burning damage. After the explosion increased burning, fire, elemental damage and dot is applied to that base burning damage.
That means that increased fire and elemental damage double dip on the burn (in a colloquial way). 10% fire/elemental is therefore more beneficial for the burning damage than 20% increased burning damage.

Not that it would make any difference for your tree.
