0.9.3 will actually wipe all characters!

We will be using the "Legacy league" technique for any subsequent patches that disturb the item balance substantially.

Sorry to go back on a statement we already made about this, but at this stage we're trying to save time and keep our feedback quality high.

I believe that characters will be reverted to level 1 (with no items) so that you can keep the names you've reserved.

At this stage I anticipate that 0.9.3 will be deployed within two weeks (hopefully closer to one week). The amount of awesome in this patch is taking longer than expected to get stable :)

In case you're interested, here's a screenshot from 0.9.3.

God dammit, Chris. You're a tease with that screenshot and things looking a little more slick from what I can see, I like it.

I completely concur with the wipe. I think this is a better move IMO.

Not to concerned with character wipe but I stopped playing for the last little bit in preparation for 9.3

Can't wait.
VERY slick new look. A shame about not keeping characters, but I was half-expecting it and intended to start a new one either way. Question though, how will the character reversions work? Will quests and waypoints be reset as well? Will existing characters be sent to Normal Twilight Shore, Normal Shore Encampment, or left where they are on whatever difficulty they are currently on?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They'll just be level 1 new characters that have never been logged into before. Basically a complete wipe except we kept their names. That requires the minimum amount of effort and guarantees we get completely fresh (and fair) balance feedback.

Chris. Thank God there's a wipe. I always wondered why there was a need for relegating to legacy if we're going to end up being wiped after CB anyway.

And...

AWESOME SCREENSHOT. DO WANT D:<

Awesome dead tree arch.

Is this Terraces? It looks like it a little, but the beach looks a little rockier than I remember.

It looks like the Q skill could be fire storm. We couldn't get a screenshot from half a second later? :D
And as it is such so also as such is it unto you
Damn. This is rather disappointing.
I was really looking forward to a respec.

I wish you just gave us a respec earlier, like a month ago or something.

IMO occasional respecs are useful because they allow people to test stuff (particularly at high level) without having to have spent excessive amounts of time just getting to the proper level.

I was hoping that eventually, my first character I made which turned out to be completely gimped, would eventually get a respec to be set straight.

All in all I suppose this isn't to surprising though considering all the changes that are probably being made. I think it would have been good to more logically order the patch content of 0.93 into two parts or something:
The first being one which would retain existing characters for a week or few, but change a lot of stuff (just not stuff that's too hard to execute without technical problems),
The second being a reset where we'd then lose the characters in a wipe afterward, which would do all the finishing touches (and more).

That way not only could bugs potentially be dealt with a bit better, but there would bee a period of time to respec using the new passive system, so ensure the basics of some of the mechanics in the new system would work well. Who am I to say though? I know a lot less about this than GGG does, so it's probably really wrong.

This is a new side area next to the Terraces. We moved the medicine quest there.

Q is Fire Storm (name still pending). I intended to take a screenshot of it, but decided not to tease too hard (plus, the artists may still want to improve it this week).

We tried hard to split it into two patches, but there was so much interdependence that it just wasn't possible this time. We're happy to give people full point respecs with major patches (it happened many times in Alpha). It just didn't happen this way due to the changes in 0.9.3.

This patch changes most of the core foundations of how combat in the game works. It's actually a whole lot more fun to play when testing, so I hope you'll enjoy it when playing it for real.
