I noticed that you did not provide a unique helm or gloves. Is there really no uniques you would recommend for these slots? As far as I have seen, uniques seem to be better than almost everything else.
Hey LiftingNerdBro and others, I had two questions about this build (which is currently working GREAT for me, btw!!!)

First: It is my understanding that ancestral bond toons can still deal damage with traps; are any traps worth special mention here? Also, this is relevant to my second - more important - question.

Second: Culling. It is my understanding that you do not need to deal damage in order to cull. On hit, the game checks if the mob has <10% health (perhaps <, I'm not sure), and if it does the mob dies. No damage necessary, so culling strike should work for an ancestral bond toon. Now, many people use split arrow or something like that to cull, but since this build will use a wand or sceptre for the spell/elemental damage, that limits our options. So, the question is this: What would you use to cull? I am playing with three ideas.

(1) Ball Lightning + GMP + Culling Strike + IIR ( + IIQ if available, maybe faster casting or faster projectiles if not)
Pros:
Ball lightning's hits are not dependent on its level, so you can keep it at level 1 to cut down on the int requirement.
It hits each mob it passes once every 200ms; since flame totems kill pretty quickly, it'd be nice to hit frequently with one cast so that you can get that cull exactly as 10% health is reached.
It automatically pierces.
Pretty much blankets the screen
Cons:
It is not particularly fast moving, and so you may miss culls simply by not reaching mobs before they die.
Requires 5l to get IIQ, which would have to be chest... Probably isn't worth the sacrifice.

(2) Arc + Faster Casting + Culling Strike + IIR ( + IIQ if available)
Pros:
Hits mobs pretty much immediately
Can be spammed fairly quickly
Doesn't need to pierce - it just hits things.
Cons:
Number of chains is determined by gem level, and the int requirement can get high fast (one additional chain ends up requiring something like 110 int)
You can't really choose your targets, other than the first target.
If you don't cull on your first hit, the target might be dead before it gets chained again (more of a problem with white/blue mobs than rares+)
Requires 5l to get IIQ, which would have to be chest... Probably isn't worth the sacrifice.

(3) Power Siphon + GMP + IIR ( + IIQ if available)
Pros:
Built in culling strike, so it can be done in a 3l (weapon or shield), 4l for IIQ (which is, perhaps, doable)
Pretty fast projectile speed
Cons:
Doesn't pierce - could be difficult to hit the important targets
Requires a wand, which is only a moderate con since you are using wands or sceptres anyway.

Those seem like the three most obvious choices to cull on this build, given the gearing.
I'm leaning towards ball lightning, though Power Siphon's ability to 3l is attractive; a lot of people use Arc to cull, so I'm wondering if it is better than I am thinking - I haven't messed around with it, so my objections are purely theoretical.

What would you go with? Are there any other good culling skills that would work for this build that I am simply neglecting?

Thanks a lot in advance, everyone!

Fire pen makes a huge difference in DPS - sub out faster projectiles. You also can't trust the tooltip, because fire pen + flammability will have you cutting mobs down about 50 fire resist. That is HUGE.

Also, with GMP your totem shotguns (I think) which (I think) is also neglected by the tooltip.

If I had to guess, the tool tip probably also only factors in one totem, so you can pretty much double the DPS listed - though, for the above reasons, the listed DPS isn't accurate so doubling it wouldn't be much help...

Curses have less effect on bosses, but fire pen should do wonders against Dominus; give fire pen a shot, and let us know if it works out for ya!

I've been playing this build in bloodlines (which i never play) and I am currently level 70 doing very well with minimal currency invested into the build. Really enjoying this build. Any tips or changes would be really cool. I have 1124 dps and 3467 unreserved life with HoT

Hi.

Short question, i have those 2 CWDT setups why does the end.charges/imort.call dont proc?

<-doesnt anymore since i lvled the other CWDT to this

I have atm 1,5k (tooltip) dam and only 2,8k life. But it ist stable, even without imortal call saveline.

Hey, very nice build! As I'm trying this build in Torment league, I'd add a good amulet IMO:

I also found that legion/soldier gloves are the best for me to get a very welcome 40+ Intelligence boost (in order to wear the Apep's Rage). I didn't find the Doryani's Catalyst that helpful (better life + res w/ something else; but I started this build 3 days ago, level 75 only now, ymmv)

Anyway, I leveled my mara faster than I did w/ the Incinerate gem, almost 4/5 levels under the area level (0 death). I forgot how blood magic frees the mind (during Closed Beta, I loved my BM RoA ranger for this; nostalgia!).

Uniques are definitely not always better. In this situation rares are better :)

Hey man!

I prefer setting up a 3 link for culling with this build: Flame Totem, Culling Strike, IIR.

You are then going to have 2 flame totem abilities you can cast, your main damage ones and the IIR totem you cast when the mob nears low life :)
