[Build of the week S4E8] Havrd's Burning Arrow Marauder [Bloodlines][1.3]
I rolled a build close to this - biggest difference being that it's a templar and for now I have Ondar's Guile instead of IR. I originally got bored leveling the character around 50 and started AoF Ice Spear proliferation build I got killed at 59 to a suicidal Vagan mission, but then came back.
Some thoughts so far. First of all for leveling from a templar start, spells and (obviously) searing bond are great at first. Searing bond is quite great at low level even after the nerfs and even at 60ish it's usable, though nowhere near the raw power of good bow and 5l trap burning arrows. I don't even remember which spell I used, but I swapped for bow fairly early, which wasn't the greatest of ideas. Flame surge might be great with searing bond. I tried going for trapping early with deerstalkers. You can get them for like 1c in Beyond, even with 4l . It was not great at all due to low ignite chance. Ignites from self-shot arrows weren't that great either. Later on when I got a great level 53 bow drop and going from cruel docks to merciless felshrine wasn't a big issue. Then I realized I should probably put my gems back to the deerstalkers since standing at melee range for point blank wasn't viable and yeah, even without Chin Sol you can do quite decent damage. That said, Chin Sol damage at 62 is probably impossible to match with any other bow. I have - fairly unsuccesfully considering this is the highest level character I've had in the league - played two other ignite proliferation builds. The AoF ice spear and a crit fire trapper. Both died in their 50's. Comparing them briefly to this: - Ice Spear prolif - either AoF or 3D really - has an extremely high crit chance at range. As long as you can stay at sufficient range - which definitely is a thing to consider with the build - things will melt. That said you are also selfcasting ice spear which brings issues such as reflect to the table and you definitely will have smaller burns than with Chin Sol just because you'll have to sacrifice more points on getting that crit up. - Crit fire trap theoretically won't have the same high ignite chance as either of the other builds, but being an aoe skill and ignite chances working separately chances are you will ignite something if you throw your trap on a bigger pack and the burning ground is a nice effect. Those genuinely big burns will be rarer though with 5% base crit chance, but with conc effect even non-crit burns will clear things quite nicely. With crit fire trap you can also get an utility trap if you wish. Cold snap with trap, prolif and a quality added cold is quite useful in a 4L. The thing with this build is that with quite cheap legendaries (I paid 6c for Chin Sol and 1alch for Mokou's) this build can reach effectively constant crits (that aren't technically crits) and since you are getting your "crit" mostly from your equipment, you can also take quite nice amounts of damage. Fire traps and ice spears also don't have stuff such as Herald of Ash or Weapon Elemental Damage. I do wonder, though, about a shadow version of the build. You might be barely able to run EB/MoM, though for a viable build that will be a bit though especially if you also want AA. That said, you can probably make a viable BA trapper with any class, even though for something like a witch it probably means a later transition to being a BA trapper. |

Havrd, in your leveling guide you state:
"At the start just find yourself a bow and use Rain of arrows, theis will be our skill of choise until we get our Proliferation gem at lvl 24. Use burning arrow for singletarget. Get a high phys bow, rush Lava Lash and Avatar of Fire, then get Iron Grip. Use Burning arrow - Prolif - Added Fire Don't forget to have Herald of ash and Anger!" When I reached 24 I tried to switch to burning arrow, but the chance to ignite was just way too low. 20% + 5% Crit means an average of 4 arrows(excluding accuracy) just to get a burn going. I'm sure with Lava Lash and Avatar of Fire the damage would be good enough, but using RoA seems significantly faster on groups. Is there something I'm missing here? It seems like it isn't viable without Chance to Ignite. |

Guess what Havrd?!

I'd been planning to switch into this build at level 62 after running a molten strike build (was following "the community's" build, which uses a pretty similar tree). I'd just bought a Chin Sol when I died at 59 to an insane puncture stack in a vulnerability area (it's what happens when you overlook staunching).
I'm leveling my rerolled char using the leveling bow setup in this guide -- I should be able to give feedback as to which is more efficient once I reach 62 again. Right now I'm more concerned about getting the right socket colors down. I've already wasted 80+ chromes on a Death's Harp to no avail. And could the Sunblast belt work with this build? I've still got one lying around. |

i'm working on a build like that as shadow,
at first it was a self attack burning arrow but i was disapointed by the killspeed and single target was stil a problem (EA rock more) then i saw that variant with chin sol and point blank , my biggest problem right now is that i dont have RT thus my trap tend to miss but when it hits, things melt its not even funny :) Last edited by ffogell#6809 on Sep 22, 2014, 3:25:59 PM

" The Sunblast belt was good for this build before 1.2 but now you can get 22% weapon ele / Trap damage on your belts with the crafers, this means that sunblast is unfortunately totally redundant ;( Build of the week / Burning Arrow Trapper : https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1036602 [Build nerfed to oblivion]

" sunblast was never good... you can get up to 165 life on it, it's not something you just drop for a little bit of dmg. Damn man I'm so glad I picked this build! slowly upgrading my gear, the clear speed is totally inane usually, but it has one additional fatal weakness: ele resistant mobs. gonna get +1 curses stone of lahzwar eventually and dual curse with curse on hit, because I feel retardedly weak sometimes. Already lvl 85 Last edited by noobdw#6464 on Sep 23, 2014, 4:51:15 AM
