1.3 ✮ The Crit DoT Chin Sol build ✮ Puncture Trap / Ice Shot (Build of the Week S3E3)

was trying to buy a quality pierce... had zero luck... I guess they are really desirable.. At this point i guess i'll pray to the RNGESUS that one will drop .. Really wanted to get it so i could justify dropping the (3) points for piercing in the tree and pick up some more life from the scion life wheel..

in my opinion you're better off keeping the pierce node (just the one 30% chance notable, take the 1 point less route to it) and not using the pierce support gem at all, but cursing things on hit with projectile weakness, which will add the pierce chance to them. this will put you at 100% pierce chance, with a quality projectile weakness curse, and frees up another damaging support socket for your main skill = higher dps.

all you gotta do is set up a secondary attack with curse on hit, which is easy enough. lightning arrow is a great option because it hits so many things. just keep it at level 1 to conserve mana and load it up. if you're short on sockets you can even do this on a 4L. lightning arrow, gmp, curse on hit, projectile weakness.
if you want more curses you can put it on a swap weapon even, if that wouldn't bother you too much.

in any case, don't fret too bad about not having a quality pierce gem
Not sure if this would work or if this discussion already took place.. but, would it be better to run this in the three dragons

Hearld of ash > curse on hit > assassins mark > reduced mana

nvm found out it doesn't work yet http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1047604/page/2#p9128163
but that may change :)

hmm.. a good thought, though what i had been doing was not even running a curse, and running a second cwdt with molten shell. The damage i've been doing w/o a curse seems to be just fine and i've never been a big fan of spending the time to curse..

Can i weapon swap for the curse on it?? Does the curse fade if i swap back?
you can swap weapon, tho that would take more time, but no the curse will not fade off.

curses regular i'e never been a fan of either, because its so much mana and cast time etc - but since curse on hit got changed, i can't get enough. its just too fricking powerful. seriously as long as you have the sockets available, everybody should be running a curse on hit
I added the new herald of thunder to my build in place of manual cursing. Since we shock everything on the screen this new herald is super OP for us if we link it with curse on hit. I've got mine set up assassins mark - curse on hit - herald of thunder - reduced mana. This allows me to never have to worry about cursing and at 2% mana leech I still feel fine, even with more mana being reserved. I recommend giving it a shot.
im a bit confused though - i haven't used the skill, but those thunder bolts only go off when you kill something that is shocked, correct?
so don't you want the curse to go off before that happens and not after? again, i haven't tried it, so maybe it works out in practice. like maybe you run to the next pack before the effect wears off and they get cursed and you just perpetuate the cycle, but i dunno
Once you kill something that's shocked the bolts act like an aura on you so once you start killing you keep auto cursing the next pack you come near.
