Desecrate, what support for damage?

Hello,
I would like to know how do you guys usually support desecrate?
I usually stay away from it,the damage is poor in best of times,also the fact that it contains corpses does not help,since unless you're a summoner and using them quickly to make zombies,you can get screwed over by a mob corpse exploding them or resurrecting - the corpses created by desecrate are not exclusively useable by just you.
It's main use is for a summoner,i don't think that it's intended as a damage dealing gem,the inc chaos dmg and dot dmg nodes are scarce and far in-between each other so boosting it would be very inefficient.

Put Trap and Conc Effect + Increased AoE on it :)
i do not think that desecrate (except for lvl 900 Invader version) is meant to deal direct damage

i use it with cwdt + inc dur + desecrate + offering (in this order, so it ALWAYS has corpses to proc offering) and it is all i expect of this skill

200 chaos damage per second? i think that fire trap deals more damage..
It's almost not worth even trying for damage. I play a pretty good (great clear speed, can do all map bosses) summoning Chaos Ranger. So I am specced for chaos and damage over time. I 4L it Trap > Concentrated effect > Increased Area of Effect and at level 19 gem it's DPS in not even 1500. If I didn't also use it for Zombies on demand, I'd have dropped it a while ago in favor of a fire trap or something.

Just asking to be sure all the damage over time passives are included.
The problem is that it's a stationary aoe,which means that to deal substantial damage it would either have to be able to do like 20-30k dps so you can move and still deal enough dmg,or have at least 8k+ steady dps assuming you're able to facetank everything.

I to be honest don't really see the point of chaos damage/dot damage boost nodes,they are so far between each other,and they are ridiculously few.
I know they are useful,but it's like ''Here,have a candy,but you may not eat it''
Technically desecrate looks very good,it's visually good looking skill that one wouldn't get bored of too soon,and the whole unholy theme sounds interesting as well but at the end of the day all we got is a mobile cemetery skill and a staff with really cool visuals but other than that - vendorable since it would only benefit people who run party maps,which is very unlikely since group play is not encouraged by either GGG or players with their silly '70+ maps 1 chaos fee'' which is the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen in any online game - you gotta pay to be able to party with someone.

Then again,who knows,maybe one day unholy-themed builds will be viable,it's not a big one,but for sure it is a step toward such possibility.

I wouldn't sleep Chaos damage - Poison Arrow has been buffed twice in the last few months, and it now can be pretty potent. Here is a very good build I have with it:

But Desecrate isn't a damage spell - it just has such a low base damage that there isn't enough anything in the game to scale it enough to rely on as a main damage skill.
