Drillneck additional damage question

The additional projectile damage based on pierce chance, if I were to somehow get 100% chance to pierce, would my projectile damage then double? Or is there a cap to it?

Thank you.
"Increased projectile damage" stacks additively with your other "increased * damage" sources.

Example:
- 100% increased projectile damage (from having 100% pierce chance and using the Drillneck)
- 50% increased physical damage (from leveling your attack skill)
- 100% increased physical damage with bows (from nodes on the tree)

If your bow's base damage were 10, then you would deal 10 * (1 + 1.0(projectile) + .5(ipd) + 1.0(ipd w/ bow)), or 35 damage in total.

---

In PoE, "increased"/"reduced" things always stack additively and "more"/"less" things are multipliers.

base * (sum of all increases - reductions) * more * more * less *... = final.

Yup, it all just adds together, it doesn't multiply.

And, unfortunately, you can get at most 45% chance to pierce currently, only global c2p counts and that's 35% from passive tree and 10% on quiver.

Thank you! Do you mean that the global 45% is only counted for the damage, or is there only a 45% chance to pierce even if I were to have the passive and a Pierce gem? Which even at level 1 would mean a 75% pierce chance.

Yes, bonus on pierce gem and the one on projectile weakness are local, first applies only to the skill used and the second on striking the enemy. Projectile damage bonus the quiver gives you is global so it can account only for global pierce chance.

Thanks for the help. 45% is still good though. And a 35% damage boost from a single skill point is really nice.
Just to confirm, Equiping a Pierce support gem increases the damage of your skill bassed on the pierce chance it provides so 45% isnt the max damage increase to skills.

Yeah, saw some mention of Chris confirming it applies, unfortunately, can't test it.

It works in a really interesting way then. Seems that pierce support gem gives you a bonus to general 'pierce chance' and 'arrow pierce chance' is a subset of that stat. So, when your CoC fires a freezing pulse it has its local pierce stat at 100% and pierce gem does nothing to it, but arrow pierce stat which freezing doesn't normally use gets boosted by pierce gem and with drillneck the spell uses it to get projectile damage bonus.

I just bought a level 18 pierce gem to test the increased damage given by Drillneck...

I had to replace one of the following support gems I currently use on my burning arrow (5l). I tried swapping with either Faster Attacks, Physical Projectile Attack Damage, Added Fire Damage and Weapon Elemental Damage gems.

All those gems are lvl 18 too. Only faster attacks has quality on it. I also have the 35% arrow pierce chance from Piercing Shots node.

Conclusion: with pierce gem I'm getting 2k or so less damage with any combination. I don't even think a leveled quality Pierce gem would reach the dps I'm getting from my other support gems. Pierce gem is pointless if you only care of the increased damage given by Drillneck.
What if you use it with INFRACTEM?
100% bonus dmg ? D:
