Loot Drops are Greyed Out/Unlootable

Hello All,
Am new to PoE, did a search here, but can't find an answer.

While farming solo, I received a few orange items my buddy could use. We partied up,met at The Coast, I dropped the items, (unidentified) and my buddy picked them up and identified. He already had one of the items, so he dropped it on the ground. I was then unable to pick it up as it was greyed out. I'm not sure what loot permissions were set to.

We then partied up on a quest. I set loot to FFA. An orange item dropped, no timer, but it was greyed out to me and I was unable to loot.

So what's the deal here? It seems I'm missing out on potential loot as well as loot I've obtained solo, but let someone place in their inventory. I fear some epic item is going to drop that I need, but I won't have the ability to loot.

I appreciate any positive feedback you guys could provide.

you both need have a lvl25 char to trade in any way - my guess is he doesn't have a lvl25 character, so he can loot your stuff but can't give you any. One of those on the account is enough, so in an hour of gameplay or so this is a non-issue.

This feature was introduced to hinder botters/RMT-sites to quickly transfer items from one free account thats going to be banned to the next free account.

Your friend doesn't have a level 25 character, so cannot trade uniques or currency. You can't bypass the restriction by dropping items or using a guild stash.

The item drop that you couldn't pick up was probably flipped by your friend (he didn't have room when he tried to pick it up so it dropped back on the ground).

When he levels some you'll be able to trade with him.

We were both lvl 23. Not sure why he was able to pick up items I dropped, but I couldn't pick them back up after he dropped them. Also, it doesn't explain why orange item mob drops are grey to me. Thanks for the info though. Much appreciated.

I suppose we'll see what happens now that we're both 25+.

What was the result after you both hit 25+ might I ask? I had exactly this happen as I got a Unique armor, dropped it on the ground for my buddy to look at, then when he dropped it back to me, I couldn't have my armor back. Been bummed about the loss of my rare loot. Thanks!
