5-6 Socketed/Linked Armor & Weapons - RARE OR NOT?

I'm fairly new to Exile and I have to say that I'm absolutely in love with the game. I've just crossed over to Merciless so that game has really just begun for me. With that out the way...
I once read somewhere that it was extremely rare to find 5-6 socketed armor and/or weapons. I'm curious as to how true this is. And if so, where does one draw the line on which armor/weapons to forget about and which ones are considered godly? How does one associate that method to every single drop that happens? I certainly don't want to pass up potentially godly gear... but at the same time, I don't want my stash being burdened by junk. Help me understand what the best method for sorting out the trash is. "Finding a 5link isnt to bad , finding a 6link VERY rare.Most people fuse sockets to get there links.But again even linking sockets is hard.To link a 5 socket expect to use 50-100+ fuses (could get in 1 ),,,,to fuse a 6 link you better be rich cause you can blow threw thosands of fuses and not get a 6 link.Best way to get a 5/6 link is buy one!!!! .... use poe.xyz to find one. I assume colors don't matter? The linkage is the point here?

"yeah colors you just have to use chromatics to get desired colors.Again getting off colors on items is hard.Like say you have a pure evasion chest it will want to roll green sockets so getting multiple of an off color can get tough.To get a six link the itemlevel has to be 50 or higher. " Colors are easy to fix with chromatic orbs (a relatively common currency) whereas the number of links requires fusings (which are about half a chaos). Additionally, 6-linking is much less likely than getting the colors you want (unless you're doing all green on an armor/ES piece or something) |

So, in conclusion, I should probably scrap any 5-link armors/weapons?
What about 6 sockets with some linkage? Is it really only worth keeping if all 6 are linked? Lastly, again, does the rarity matter? I know there are orbs that can change rarity, which is why I ask. Sorry for the confusion of a newbie, but I appreciate all the help thus far! |

In the end game you will find plenty of 5 socketed items, and the occasional 5 linked item. You can sell a 5 link for a few chaos if you are into trading. You will also find the occasional 6 socketed item, and they are worth vendoring as you get 7 Jeweler's orbs for them.

The vendors' inventory resets EVERY time you level. So after EACH level up, ensure that you go and check all the vendors (in every act/difficulty) for three color linked items. Buy them for the few scroll(s) of wisdom cost, and sell back to vendor for 1 Chromatic Orb. I think I have made stacks of chromatics just doing this till now on this character.
I also have lucked out, and have found two 5L chest items. Use an Alc Orb on them and sell them. Depending on which league you are in, can easily sell for 10 chaos to 20+ etc. Any 5L item will ALWAYS sell for some chaos or more to other players - dont vendor it.
