Unidentified item quality increase
Okay so, for some reason I thought that if I left a rare (yellow) item unidentified that when I apply a blacksmith whetstone (or armorer's scrap) that it would increase it by 5% quality. WRONG!
I think it would be good if BEFORE you identify an item the orbs (armorer's scrap/blacksmith whetstone) applied would increase its quality by 5%. This way you may 'waste' orbs on an unidentified item but you wouldn't waste 20 of them. Maybe, it (AS/BW) is meant to be applied after identifying the item. IDK. I would like to hear feedback from players. Should unidentified items (when AS/BW is applied) act like white items? I don't really seem any harm... Especially since they are unidentified. Please, negative and positive feedback is welcome. RIP Diablo franchise

This is a really interesting idea.
I had never thought about it this way. White = 5% quality increase Blue = 2% quality increase Yellow = 1% quality increase. But if you find an unidentified yellow, you don't know the true value of the item until you identify it, so by using a BW/AS on it, it's essentially the same a crafting a rare from a white... I suspect there may be technical difficulty in making such a thing work, though. =/ "We were going to monitor the situation but it was in the wrong aspect ratio."

Thank you!
I just don't see the harm in it. If it rolls crumby stats then who cares? You're our 4 'orbs'. If I spent 4 'orbs' increasing the quality of an item and it turn out (after identifying it) that it sucks do you really think I'm going to use a Chaos orb until I get what I want? No, probably not. Ill sell it since Chaos orbs seem to be more rare that BW/AS. I really don't see this idea as bad. RIP Diablo franchise

While agree with the idea.
Here's the harm: this makes the alch recipe a hell of a lot cheaper. |

True, but we are talking about an item that is already rare. The Alch gem is used to turn a white into a rare. I see your point but what if the unidentified rare is not necessarily the exact item you are looking for, but to apply the BW/AS to a potentially useful item.
I would assume an alch gem would be used on a white item with preferred sockets (plus your BW/AS) to make it a rare. Again, doesn't mean what you want you will get but I still don't think my idea would cause much harm.. Great feedback guys. EDIT: mistakes. What can you expect when drinking? lol EDIT in addition: So say you spend your 4 BW/AS on an unidentifed rare. Then you identify.. And its crap. How many Chaos orbs would you honestly be willing to spend to make up the 4 BW/AS orbs? Personally I wouldnt spend more than 1 because they seem to be rare to me. Just my opinion. But, based on that I would still value my alch orbs over my chaos orbs. RIP Diablo franchise RIP Bird Lovers of Wraeclast <BLÔW> Congrats Chris & others for cashing out! I don't blame you. What SL4Y3R is getting at is that there are some vendor recipes that allow you to craft an alchemy orb for trading certain rare items that have 20% quality.
The suggestion of allowing a 20% upgrade to a yellow will make these recipes much easier to complete, which will affect the economy in a bad way. A change in the way the BW/AS works on yellows affects more than just the one item you are improving. There are other things that are affected by reducing the cost of increasing the quality of the yellow items. "We were going to monitor the situation but it was in the wrong aspect ratio."

Oh shiz, didn't even think of the vendor recipe...
Okay. So then 12 of AS/BW (assuming you are starting with 0 quality) would be worth one Alch orb.. Lemme think....... Yeah I think it's worth it. Anyone else? If that's the case my idea is OUT!!! Bummer man... Too bad I agree to disagree with myself lol RIP Diablo franchise

I think the whetstones and armourer scraps are common enough (resp. easy enough to collect) to keep the alchemy recipe viable enough too.
On the other hand, whats the difference from the item's view? Nothing: a yellow piece is a rare one, no matter if identified or not, no matter if useful or not. So, in any case, the quality improvements are worth 1% on them. The aspect of unidentified items is more of an additional mess than part of gambling... I never would have an idea for what to upgrade stuff quality before I id it and can see the usefulness - beside the alchemy recipe o course. invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

" Since the drawback is that you might waste your mats doing this, than as counterweight the upgrade for yellows should be greater than the regular increase. Thinking from the developers stand point. There has to be a sink, a peak and a flat aspect of most stuff. www.graffiticreator.net
