A. it is a one handed weapon which can only roll 3 sockets max
B. once max sockets are reached jewelers become unusable to stop you from wasting currency C. The item level would also cap the number of sockets you can roll on an items(not in this case though) Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

Hi!
Jewellers orbs sometimes cease to work. It happened with my uniques: Queen's Decree and Geofri's Baptism Brass Maul. When I got four sockets, jewellers stopped to work. I got the message: "Failed to apply item..." And it is understandable that I need at least 5 sockets! What can I do about it? |

" See C. The item level of your stuff is under ilvl 35 meaning you can't get higher rolls than 4 sockets Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi He who controls the pants controls the galaxy. - Rick & Morty S3E1 Last edited by lagwin1980#2224 on Nov 24, 2013, 5:00:40 PM

Thanks for reply!
I still don't quite understand why there is this cap on 6-socket items. I mean, I had 5 sockets on Queen's Decree, then this cap happened and now I can only have 4 sockets forever! What's the point about it? No risk no fun? Looking forward to your reply! |

I think maybe there is some confusion between the level you see on an item and the hidden Item Level. All items have what's called an Item Level. This is not the same as the Required Level. Tthe Item Level determines what properties the item can have, including the maximum number of sockets. Item Level is determined by the monster that dropped the item. If an area is level 40, all items dropped by normal monsters will be Item Level 40. Magic monsters drop +1 level items and Rare and Unique monsters drop +2 level items, so in this case Item Levels 41 and 42.
The monster that dropped your item was between level 28 and level 36, which is why 4 is the maximum number of sockets you can get. If you get the same item dropped in a level 50 area, you could get 6 sockets on it. Guild Leader The Amazon Basin <BASIN>

Pick the item up on your cursor and type /itemlevel into the chat. This will allow you to see the item's Item Level.
If your Queen's Decree's item level is 34 or lower, then it is impossible for it to have ever had 5 sockets barring some incredibly unlikely bug that changed your item's item level - the most likely explanation is that you got your Queen's Decree confused with a different two-handed sword with 5 sockets that you had. Unfortunately, even if you disagree, that's probably the explanation you'll have to accept. The bug/technical support staff have no way of checking the "item level history" of any items you have, because Item Levels literally cannot change, so the only way you'd be able to make a case for your Queen's Decree originally having 5 sockets is if you had a screenshot of it with 5 sockets and then a screenshot of the "Cannot use Jeweller's" message. ALTERNATIVELY you might just have a gem inside your item and/or have it equipped. You can't Jeweller's an item if it has a gem inside it and/or have it equipped. In other words, because I like babbling on about things meaninglessly: It is a fact that if your sword had 5 sockets previously, and there is no bug involved, then you should be able to roll 5 sockets again.
