Instances still reset too quickly, frustrating

I was just battling against ruthless a2 boss, and I noticed that my lightning resistance was way too low. So I decided to gear up, I spent several minutes in town rolling rings, once I was ready, my tp to vaal was gone. Now I have no other choice than run that pain-in-the-a** pyramid again (elemental resisting skeletons, yay!).

Also, I hate it that I can't afk or take a break until I find wp, unless I'm ready to run the same areas again.

There were some old threads about this, but nothing has changed.

Instances, at least those that have tp, should not reset until player logs out.

GGG does not have the server infrastructure to maintain every instance a player makes until they log out. They prune because they have to prune. Keep them active by hopping into the portal and refreshing the instance timer.

But that's difficult if you have to afk for a while. I doubt that keeping one instance active for longer period of time requires too much from GGG. TP:s could be used to 'mark' that area which player wants to keep.
I just usually track back a bit in an area to a place I cleaned out already and hang there. Sometimes I hike up the audio a bit too to notice if a stray monster found me there.
Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind.
In game name is Kaosu and/or ChaosBlade.

One instance, nah. Wouldn't be a lot on the server. One Instance x 1000's, yes. This would.

I'm a heavy smoker, I often get calls at night from work, and I have a child. The way I've managed to keep my instances open is doing what Ransagy said. I usually run back to the beginning of the instance and just sit in the corner. The chances of a mob finding you after clearing everything are pretty slim, though it does happen.
I wonder if it would still be too resource intensive to just purge the instance when needed, but maintain the tp at the entrance and reroll a new instance when the player returns. Would certainly be less resource intensive than otherwise encouraging players to sit idle inside an instance to force it open for an indeterminant amount of time, I'd think.

Ninja: I also wouldn't be abusable for farming purposes, as it would require 8-15 minute wait before the instance reset.

Well - as much as i feel for ya , as it sucks having to go back again, #1 - its an ARPG, nothing wrong with a lil extra grind, and #2, thems the brakes peoples. You go afk, knowing the system , than expect it.

Cheers.
GGG - Why you no?

The way instances work, from what I have read, and when OB hits, when the server is under strain, the life of the instance can even be shorter than 7 minutes.
POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!
The shortest timer an instance can have I think is four minutes. During launch, don't abandon your instances for any length of time, that's for sure!
