Going over 100 Crit Strike chance?
I apologize in advance for asking what is a noob question but Does going over 100% Critical Strike Chance grant you anything?
Also what does Power Charges do? Danker =) |

If I remember correctly, critical strike chance was capped at 95%.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

Really?
But it seems that you can easily go over 95% crit chance before hitting 50. |

" Though, I do think critical hit damage is still uncapped. Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

Being able to Crit non-stop would be rigged of course :P

Critical strike uses BASE CRIT. Look at the base critical strike chance of the skills/spells/weapons you are using. Most things have 5%.
If you get +100% crit strike chance, you now have 10% crit chance. You will need +1900% increased crit chance on a 5% crit chance attack, to always critically hit (provided the max is not 95%, which it is, but for simplification, let's pretend otherwise). At most, you can feasibly get +300% crit chance as a shadow. Allow me to warn you that I have done this and it sucks. You cannot use melee weapons; you have no health. Thus you are left with bows and wands or spells. Most spells are out because they are below 5% crit chance. The only spells worth considering are ice spear, freezing pulse, fireball, and maybe spark. There could be some others, but they would probably be hard to build for because you need to spend about 40+ points in critical strike chance, meaning, at least half of your build is used up getting to those clusters. Power charges give a whopping 50% crit chance per charge. This is WAY more effective than actually spending points on +crit strike nodes, but in combination with them, and +2 to max power charge, it is possible to have: 5*50 300~ 550% crit chance from non-items This isn't even half the amount required to reach max crit chance. You may be able to get +250% crit chance from your gear, if you get perfect rolls on necklace and weapons, bumping us up to 700% crit chance. I would estimate the maximum feasible critical chance right now is +800~%. That's if you have perfect gear and 100 stat points and the crit strike support gem. Mind you, if you go this route, you will have awful survivability, and probably insufficient crit damage. The nice thing is that elemental wand or spell crits are nice, due to elemental critical effects, but physical critical builds are awful because it is ridiciulous to expect them to have 5 power charges and no survivability, plus, physical crits inherently have no bonus effect. edit : Crit damage builds are actually far more effective, because you can slot up 3 diamond flasks and have huge bursts of high damage. You might want to consider that instead. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282 Last edited by anubite#0701 on Sep 5, 2012, 8:07:22 PM

You also forgot that wands can get base crit upwards of 10, so hitting the crit cap is technically feasible with them.

I also forgot about critical weakness curse.
So yes, it is possible to hit the cap with wands, but I do not believe any other weapon or spell is possible. Or at least, if it is possible, it requires nearly pefect gear and requires you to sacrifice most of your defense. Consider all that work when diamond flask is the same thing and you can have 5 of those if you make some crazy build that doesn't need other potions. Probably would be easier. With a very balanced build with an ice witch, I have 38.1% crit chance with Freezing pulse. I'm using 2 daggers, took all of the juicy nodes in the shadow tree, and though I could have easily taken more critical passives, I spent points focusing on mana recharge and ES. I use Crit Weakness curse, which puts me at 47.1% critical chance against opponents it is on.
95% Critical chance... I could see some people wanting that, but this game is one where moderation > overemphasizing one part of your character. Moreover, I honestly don't see how it is possible for spells. I'm at 265% Crit chance from nodes, about 340% from gear--Golden/Platinum daggers are great!--and I could have chosen the Increased Critical Strike gem, but by this point, I chose Critical Multiplier instead, because, let's face it, it's a stronger gem, and ~3% increased chance isn't really going to matter that much.
