" Since you seem to be unable to find the correct forum for all of your questions: Please start posting your gameplay questions here. Identify everything is the general rule of thumb. All the gear you are finding now, is very likely nothing you will keep for very long and is by no means "end game". With the rare exception of superb jewelry. IGN: Shnoop

just limit the items you pick up...
I only identify blue items that can potentially be useful (rings, amus, belts, high-base item weapons of the type I use) selling them identified gives alteration shards and sometimes alchemy shards - (Alteration Orbs are traded 8:1 vs. Orb of Alchemy (or 8:1 Orb of fusing at the vendor), so they have value. Besides that alteration-orbs are used in endgame-crafting and in the rolling of early endgame Maps. And you'll need Alterations yourself in good quantity to roll good Potions once you can use the best ones (level 53) selling items unidentified gives transmutation shards, transmutations can be traded to augmentation 1:3 and those to Alteration 1:4 (or something along those lines). And they can be use on any given item only once, so their value is limited. TL/DR: selling unidentified isn't worth the time it takes in general, and you can never have enough Alteration Orbs ever Last edited by Buchsbaum#0527 on Jul 21, 2013, 7:02:31 PM

Rare and Unique items are probably almost always going to be worth identifying(one possible exception being maps if you want the added bonus for running it unid). As for magic items, in theory it may still be worth more to id them all before selling, but you will run out of scrolls pretty quickly if you do that with everything and it's a waste of time anyway. I'd say only id magic items if you think there is a chance it might be something you can actually use or if you have a large number of stacks of scrolls that you just want to use up anyway and don't want to bother finding someone to trade them to.
