Mouse click movement is frustrating

I understand that for some reason moving around a map by clicking the mouse is a defining characteristic of the genre. I know I am not the only one who finds this movement method frustrating. Look at any similar type of game and someone has blessedly provided a keyboard/joystick workaround. Generally it involves autohotkey. A workaround provided by a 3rd party is something required for a game published by non-gamer suits.

Why is movement based on joystick or keyboard keys not supported? How come the only way to change the position of or direction a character is facing is to click the mouse on the map? Allow the option to have keyboard keys or joystick input move the character and mouse-clicks do attacks and interact with the map independent of movement.

The game mechanic is melee attack centric. If the only way to attack was to melee it would not be that big an issue. The option to stand still and attack (hold down the shift key) exists so that acknowledges that mouse click movement has limitations for ranged attacks. That is a great feature but expand on it.

Moving away from an enemy while attacking is not possible. Look at the first tough fight as a ranged character. Run away, turn, shoot until the enemy gets close, run away, turn, shoot... I should be able to cast spells as I run past or walk backwards.

How often do you end up moving when you only wanted to attack or click on something? Once is too many times and avoidable if the player had the option to restrict movement to keyboard or joystick inputs. It is understood the current mechanics are preferred by many. Options are a good thing.

As a ranged character, you don't have to use shift key, you have middle click, right click and QWERT there.

Moving away from an enemy while attacking is not possible.

And it should stay that way or we can simply delete all melee chars from the game.
It is also quite realistic if you ask me, I could never shoot from bow while running. Even Legolas usually stops to shoot.

Despite that I agree options are good. I personally wouldn't use it but I know many people would.

There will never be a keyboard movement option in PoE. Chris explains why in an interview here.

Other players have already made scripts to allow keyboard movement, but they come with issues as the script has to simulate by using mouse clicks.

I'd just like a dedicated move key, would solve all my problems with mouse movement. Getting stuck casting goddamn ice spear in the middle of melee mob hell because I misclicked on a mob or something is probably the most obnoxious thing in the game right now.

Me too, but after listening to that interview I'm not sure it's feasible.

Good find - but this is more directed at WASD than it is to a "move key." Here's the bottom line. Right now, "mouse click" is the "move key" (as it were). There should be absolutely no issue with changing the move key to (for example) "X". The client and the server can simply interpret that "X" as a left mouse click move command. Am I missing something here?

To clarify, I'm not saying it would be a "walk" command. Here's what I would imagine the current logic looks like:
- receive left click press
- determine mouse cursor position
- move character towards mouse cursor position based on receiving left click press

And here's what I'm proposing:
- receive "X" keypress
- determine mouse cursor position
- move character towards mouse cursor position based on receiving "X" keypress.

It's all been said here.

I have no problem at all with running and shooting at a distance, and never I have moved unintentionally when what I wanted to do is shoot simply because of the middle click, right click and QWERT keys. The left mouse click is intended for meelee characters, whilst ranged characters only have to set the cursor in the position where they want to shoot, and avoid the left click when they attack. Now you probably would think "this renders the left click completely useless for ranged characters, therefore wasting a skill slot", which is in part true, yet there should be solutions for this.

As for Leroyyrogers suggestion, the current use for the left click is movement and a skill, and your suggestion is to set the left click only for a skill while the movement is set to a keyboard key (X). Now if you picture it the other way around and set the movement for the left click and the skill for the X key, wouldn't that be exactly what they did already with the QWERT keys?

The problem is not the left-click mouse to move, but rather the intention of it.

The real problem players are complaining is that the auto-changing from Move to Attack is causing un-intended swapping to the Attack mode "when they just want to Move."

An Easy fix is to add a key. The current left-mouse can still be retain as it is. The purpose of the new key is to by-pass the Attack mode, or simply "turn-off" the attack mode when pressed. Thus "create a movement" key.

Bear in mind that it makes a big difference when one is trying to avoid being surrounded by the mobs.
However, if the players is already been surrounded, then the only way to get out is either fight your way out or using a specific skill.

ADD a new button for the players sake. Please we need it.

+1

I could really use a move key in some dungeons and doorways, especially when there is necromancers which summon a lot of mobs.
