'Trainer' was so original
I have to start by saying this post in completely out of character for me. I normally take things such as 'exploits hacks and cheats' with a grain of salt and remind myself to just play the game and let those who break the rules suffer the inevitable consequence.
After praising GGG/POE time and time again I am now posting to hopefully shed light on shameful users and the corners they are cutting. Finding, downloading and running a Path of Exile "trainer" program seems to be becoming more common amongst players I find myself interacting with. WTF did I just read?! In the past, and I mean the paaaaast, 'maphacks' were a problem that never really had a tight lid sealed over it. With the overall 'death' of Diablo 2 also brought with it my last personal experience with consistent map hackers. After an anonymous player led me through two dungeons in the most current POE patch and proceeded to describe his 'trainer' program and where he got it I had the most gut wrenching feeling of betrayal. Surely there aren't other players bold enough to try these hacks... well, there are. Well surely there weren't in map hackers in those races I tried to win? Right? How easily those players must have it. Here I find myself re-rolling level 5 toons trying to perfect my act 1 start thinking "Hey, maybe I can get as good as that player who just hit pools & streams @ 22 minutes in!" Sadly, it feels like a farce. As though I'm dangling that wonderful carrot just out of reach and convincing myself I'll 'train' myself to run like the flo'jo but hey, I showed up to the party with no 'trainer'... I have read the TOU and even found all the traditional "Get uR azZ bannded 4 MapHackz!" or mods to client. Even a small amount of information that says you guys "ban waved" all the rule breakers. However, I believe the problem continues to exist. News of hackers is not common amongst this here internet, but knowing they are competing within an inner circle of players I belong to and knowing others have the ability to play in such a lackadaisical manner has felt like a black cloud above wraeclast since. I understand the Proplayers all stream legitimate strategies and even finish in the top spots, however I watched each streamer fall in hardcore and the next 'unknown' in the latter moved his way up. ?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-? Are players banned in waves? Should I expect there to always be a small % of Maphackers trying to weasel in? Is GGG able to prevent this type of program from modifying it's client in the future, or is our only available weapon against this behavior constant monitoring/banning of the users? Without a streamlined way to report a player currently, is there any plans to let the community kick in to help with this problem? Are races compromised, even by a small %? ?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-? Making a public post may seem off putting to some, but this demon should be dragged into the light so we can collectively beat it to death with Ban Sticks. 1) yes.
2) No. 3) You won't know who is hacking, so no, they wouldn't waste time. 4) No, any map hack isn't going to help somebody. Skill and RNG will prevail. |

" 1) Probably are, they usually state that they have large ban waves but don't make it known because well, they aren't obligated to. Doesn't really matter if they do it in waves or consistently IMO. Yes, you should expect it. 2) Obviously they can't prevent it or it wouldn't exist. Most modern games always have maphackers/other types of hacks, else there wouldn't be the need to ban people if they didn't exist (they exist in much smaller percentages in larger more established games, but they will always exist). 3)They will probably implement some thing in the future, it is still Beta remember. 4)Probably is, but everyone in the top 20 is usually a streamer so I'm not too concerned about said small %. *edit, just reminds me of MHers in WC3 DotA, they were usually worse players, not only because they resorted to using MH to boost their "skill", but a lot of times they will try and make it look like they aren't using MH in order to not get banned, and it makes them even worse. As poster above said, Skill and RNG bro. Last edited by cypherrage#6683 on Jun 17, 2013, 11:38:40 AM

" Yes, you can expect a small M of Maphackers. " They can make their job (a lot) harder, but nothing more. " And see folks flooding the system and have more issues to ban the cheaters ? " Yes and no. The top ladder isn't, the bottom is. Last edited by Hovergame#7060 on Jun 17, 2013, 11:41:42 AM

" Your last answer really bothered me.. why would the players with the advantage be at the bottom of the ladder... More importantly I am more concerned with the maphackers affecting MEand my peers. The top 20 on stream seem to be doing okay with donations and legit strats. I would even be upset to findmyself in position 22 with a hacker at 21 "I just want to say, I self found poe.trade"

This looks like a client side mod - those are hard to detect. Looking at it made me have mixed feelings too. PoE should start to have some sort of shield that checks the client size data on load.
