Respecing nodes to simultaneously break and reconnect paths doesn't work

Imagine you have a pathing like, where "s" is selected node and "u" is an unselected node, and the "." are other parts of the tree that are valid paths.

...s-s-s-u-u-s-s...

and what you want is:

...u-u-s-s-s-s-s...

If, while respeccing, unspec 1,2,3 and then spec 5,4,3 and accept, it'll act like it worked. But it didn't. Sometimes the tree will look like the nodes that were either unspecced or specced will appear unspecced (but not the nodes that were unspecced and re-specced, they'll still be lit), the the old path (the edges of the graph) will be lit making it look like it's pathing through unspecced nodes. It'll fix itself, though I don't remember the condition... if it was re-opening, zoning, or logging out.

If the part of the tree matters, as a Huntrees, I pathed through Blur to Reflex Action to Primal Instinct and to Stalk and Leap. I also continued down the bottom side of the tree (through Catlike Agility). Eventually I decided I didn't want Reflex Action (and its two travel nodes on either side) and didn't have enough points to connect to Stalk and Leap so I did this respec shenanigans to save gold, instead of removing (accept) and then adding (accept). The "fake" path through unspecced nodes was through Reflex Action.

I've experienced this too.
