Terracotta Fanatic not dropping essences

During act 5 I encountered double essence terracotta fanatic, it detonated itself before I got to finish it and so it dropped nothing, like the standard ones. I think they should either drop the essences or these types of monsters shouldn't be able to spawn as essence monsters.

Which area did this happen in? Valley of the Titans? Titan's Grotto?
