Permanent skin transfers please
So, I've been enjoying PoE 2 a lot, and even got into PoE 1 lately after learning that there were a bunch of unlockable free cosmetics. I have gotten myself a whole bunch of stash tab and a couple of cosmetic items from the store too. Compared to other games they are very expensive, but I don't mind, because I know that these price tags are the reason such a high quality free to play game can exist in the first place.
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I feel good about buying something like a stash tab because I know that it's a permanent thing that I will have forever, and we're all familiar with too good to use syndrome, causing us to hoard health potions and other similar items in practically every RPG we play. I doubt PoE will ever get a transmog system along the lines of what World of Warcraft has, and that's okay. I was disappointed when I learned how these skin transfers work though. You can get a pack of 10 of them for 50 points, or 50 of them for 200 points, paying 4 or 5 for each one. But if you use one to change the appearance of a piece of gear and then later replace that piece with a better one you found or crafted, your skin is stuck on the old item that you're not using anymore. Frankly, that feels terrible. I have zero interest in buying them in the state that they are right now. It's a smiliar situation to the rare loot cards from the WoW tcg back in the days. Let's take the Servants of the Betrayer set for example. There are three different loot cards, the first and most common one being 50x consumable pet biscuits that double the size of your pet until you unsummon it, the middle one being a toy that makes weather, and the last and rarest one being a rocket mount. Today, the weather machine is worth $75, the mount is worth $789 and the pet biscuits are worth $3. I remember actually pulling the pet biscuit card twice back in the days and using the code to add the item to my World of Warcraft account. I'm pretty sure I never even used a single one, because it was a rare non-renewable consumable item. They're just useless trash at that point that appeals to no one. We've clearly seen that many of us PoE fans are willing to pay €10-20 for a single cosmetic item. It's pricy, but GGG is doing a great job overall and is a nice, genuine change of pace in a market that is otherwise extremely toxic, greedy and completely devoid of passion these days, so I think they deserve that money. So, why not make a skin transfer item that people would actually want and feel good about buying, one that lets you convert a piece of gear in your inventory into a cosmetic item using the same model, that would work just like any other cosmetic item that you've bought in the mtx shop, letting you use it wherever you want across different characters, platforms and even in both games. I'm pretty sure it would be so much more popular than the current waste of money that skin transfers are today.
