Trial of Chaos Vaal Soul Core x Mind over Matter - Inability to Drop Quest Item

The Vaal soul core killed me approximately 40 seconds after I picked it up. I took a decent hit from an enemy further away, and despite 30% of mana pot being applied instantly I was unable to kill the enemies on screen and make it back to the drop off point. I survived quite a while longer, unable to use abilities because the Vaal Soul Core was draining mana faster than my pots replenish it.

Just an odd interaction I hadn't run into since slotting this passive.

Thing about mind over matter with it being a keystone talent and all, is that you have to lean hard into it as a build to make it really work. I wouldn't suggest allocating it unless you have at least 800-900 base mana regeneration per second beforehand (which should come fairly easily with a mana pool around 2.5-3k).

That said, the other thing about mind over matter is that it is by far the heaviest passive defensive regeneration method available in game. When you do lean into it, there is not a single damage over time effect in the game that you will notice at all, including a full 100 stack from a trial of chaos soul core.

Just a matter of feeling out how the keystone interacts and then leaning into it though. I fiddled with it a few times meself feeling out where your kit needs to be to work with it, and your investment in max mana and mana regen really does need to be profound (barring a couple of niche alternative recovery methods).
I think this just comes down to a skill/gear issue. If properly built, or rather, more powerfully built. Vaal soul cores should never kill you through mana regen and MoM.

If I had to guess, your mana pool amd/or mana regen isn't large enough. Further complications might be if you had the ramp debuff that makes you take more damage the longer the trial lasts.
that's 1/1000 ? crit ?
