Arbiter of ash one-shot mechanic
This is absolutely a horrible and ill-designed something. Making players search for three keys that are usually very far away and need hours if not days of mapping ? Only a single try per citadel on which bosses also have one-shot attacks ?! No... just no ! NO way someone can find this fun or enjoyable. Given that the game doesn't give you the loot and gear to get through these fights is even more nonsense. The fire wave attack where you need to stay in a line or get killed is bad... often there's not even enough time to reach a safe spot, same for his meteor attacks.
And these are purely one-shot, even if you happen to have a pixel out of the safe zone you immediately die. Very bad design, just encouraging people to put real money on alt currency selling websites to get these divines that will MAYBE help you with the fights. And making people farm and go through so many waystone naps just to find those citadel keys ? No , no and no ! Something is very bad designed here, need to rethink your mechanics seriously ! This is no fun AT ALL !!! Makes me want to quit the game ASAP... Do something about it ! Last bumped on Feb 17, 2025, 10:21:24 PM

pinnacle bosses were never meant to be easy and enjoyable. Deal with that endgame bosses will have a lot of options to one shot player.

" This shows the level of Stockholm syndrome many PoE player have. Yes, bosses are meant to be enjoyable. That's why people play video games - for fun and enjoyment. And this is completely separate from difficulty. Sword Saint Isshin is one of the hardest bosses in all of the Soulsborne games, yet he it is insanely fun and enjoyable to fight him and learn to beat him. No cheap tricks, no one-shots, no senseless punishment for playing the game and learning the boss. Xesht is such a great design. King of the Mists too. I never heard anyone complain about their combat mechanics or that they are unfair. So yes, even in PoE 2 we have pinnacle bosses that are fun to play and learn too. So it is clearly doable. Where is the fun when you need to do days of mapping before attempting a second try ? Would you enjoy in a soulslike game to have to go through hours of play before getting another chance on a boss ?! Hmmmm ?

" Not meant to be enjoyable? Isn't that the whole point of playing a game? If you can't make a game challenging and enjoyable then something is wrong with the design |

" Brother, I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I am on your side. |

OP is absolutely right. Hours and hours farming countless maps to get the keys, and then you die because you are some pixels outside the circle, it's unfair and I don't understand why the developers programmed the game this way.
However, there is a solution, and this solution is already applied in POE1: each attempt of the boss does not restore his health, so you can beat him despite missing the safe zone a few times. This way glass cannon builds aren't mandatory, because you aren't forced to kill the boss before he oneshoots you. Otherwise another solution could be like in dark souls games: the boss can oneshoot you, but you can try again immediately afterwards, as many times as you want. If you are not capable of doing well designed boss fights, you just simply do one shot mechanics...
It is not just the arbiter, it is everywhere besides Xesht. Well done... not This sucks... what you been doing all those years? Have you ever played a minute yourself? Think not...this is all garbage... Last edited by Gaufzi#2305 on Feb 17, 2025, 1:40:22 PM

My problem with the Arbiter was reaction times, or lack of time to react properly in certain instances.
During the circle phase some of the circles are placed sufficiently far apart that if you are not at the closest point of the current circle to the next circle that even 35% speed boots won't help you. There is no pattern I can see helping you to predict where the next circle will appear. Sometimes you enter a circle just in time and the next circle is at the opposite side, there is no time to get to the next one. Either the distance between circles should be adjusted or time between explosions extended. I know you can potentially solve this with skills like blink but you get perhaps 2 casts within the circle phase and an unlucky streak of three distant circles could still kill you, I also like having to adjust gems just to beat a fight. |

People cry about this because it is a flipcoin.
Maybe you do it, maybe you dont, but its not on the player. You may as well do the fight with a coin when you put the tablets on the door. You guessed correctly heads? There is your loot. |
