Game Freezes while logging in with controller (poe1)

I can't play at all using controller right now. The game will freeze at the loading screen after character selection.

I have two xbox controllers, with USB cord and wireless, both cause the same freeze.

I tested by logging in with mouse and keyboard instead, and that works fine. Laptop is an older HP Pavillion for gaming.

Has anyone else experienced this, or maybe even know how to fix it?

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the two different .exe files for poe.
for me, the x64Steam file does NOT crash after character selection. The one I marked red in the image does crash.

I opened the x64Steam file instead of just running through steam directly and this has solved it.

It might be a solution other people want to consider for their crashing games: check which .exe file works for them.
