No more 'Processing Vulkan Shaders' on Steam (Linux)

I've noticed since the 0.1.1 patch, the shaders are no longer pre-caching, or even caching at all? I wouldn't have cared, but the wrong pack of monsters can now bring gameplay to a halt, making it (at times) unplayable.

I spent the last few days trying different flavors of Linux, different Nvidia drivers, different performance modes, to no avail. I'll keep trying because this game is incredible.

Pre-0.1.1 the 'Processing Vulkan Shaders' was time consuming but at least it helped to make the game playable.

steam client is just awful right now. the fps drops and input bottlenecks during minor amounts of mob abilities make ot unplayable entirely.
Yet another unpaid Path of Exile 2 Alpha Tester.
I've only used Steam and never had issues before 0.1.1.
Upon reaching Endgame, Steam had nearly 16gb of shaders pre-cached.

After reinstalling post 0.1.1, it now sits at 0gb.
Interesting. I'm on linux via steam as well and I'm still getting the 'processing vulkan shaders' startup phase. I just skip it though since it doesn't seem to do anything for me.

One thing that made a big difference for me both for performance and visual quality was switching the 'upscale mode' setting to 'DLSS' from the default. If you have a card that is DLSS capable and haven't done that you might give it a try. I would assume that the equivalent AMD setting would also help since the default setting seemed to be CPU bound.

Also for reference my launcher options are:
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 gamemoderun %command%

The nvidia options were needed to allow the game to see that the card had the DLSS capability.

I'm going to try this, thank you! I've been playing with Upscale mode off, and DLSS is not an available option for me.

I just used my Endgame character to hop around in Act 3 Cruel, and when I logged out just now it has downloaded 1.45GB of shaders (viewable from Steam Settings -> Storage). Definitely something I'll be tinkering with further, as I feel the lack of shaders are really hurting my Endgame mapping.

The only launch option I was using was -force-vulkan.

Adding those options made the game unlaunchable for me ^^

I still appreciate it!
:( that's too bad. If your card can't handle it then it won't work. Maybe it will help someone though.

Does your distro have 'gamemode' on it? it is installed be default default on linux mint I think. If you don't have it that third option wouldn't work.

I hope it helps someone!

I'm running lubuntu, and after your suggestion I did the apt install gamemode and it seems to be there now ^

I tried Mint recently but it was too resource-intensive for my laptop. Lubuntu got me through the initial releases and to Endgame.

They show up in Storage but not in Downloads. I wonder what changed with the last patch?
