Count of Ogham, Groenor fight

I was fighting the count, and had just died for the second time, with the count at maybe 25% health. The game said I could Return to the Village, then gave me the restart at checkpoint button to select. When I restarted at the checkpoint the count was gone and I had no rewards, no portal, etc. I didn’t to the arena to fight, but nothing happened. I restaurant the last checkpoint and went through the keep to the waypoint and back to the village. The game then progressed as though I had killed the boss and completed the quest.

I was able to go through the manor and fight him again, I got some regular drops, but nothing special. So unless there is a one time drop maybe it’s just an inconvenience?
