Battles are freezing but background still animating

Hi all, I am having an extremely frustrating issue where a lot of the time when I'm battling a large number of enemies (but even sometimes 3-5) my character freezes, as well as the enemies. The background is still animating and I am still able to bring up the inventory window but cannot play the game, until it catches up with itself but by then, the enemies have killed me :p
I have seen it suggested somewhere that it's the internet connection dropping, however when it happens, my internet connection is still active and I am able to watch YouTube videos and browse other sites etc.
I am currently running an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 at the moment. Cheers everyone!
