The game needs a soft reboot
I think they lost focus while developing the game and lost track of what they promised before releasing POE 2. Seeing that the player base is already dwelling (it's now 175k peak), meaning that the end game is not fun or the 600k was only because of the hype and people didn't like it after all. Closing the early access and focusing on a soft reboot would be the good thing to do.
After 1 month and a half: -The economy is already broken -The item drop system is the worst of all ARPGs. It pushes player to buy currency with real money in a game where everyone is playing single player, since being in a group is worst. -The game lost more than 400k players on steam -The promised ''We want more build variety'' is nowhere to be seen. In fect, they destroyed variety with honour mode and one hit-death mechanics. How do you intend to make a thorn build work or a life leech one? -The skills are weird. Too much waiting with skills like Ember Fusiilade or Earthquake and where are the nods for Channel skills? -They lied about support gems that were not gonna be dam. oriented. -It was supposed to be a more streamlined experience for new players, but the newbie class, warrior, is the worst and most difficult class to play and so many things are not explained, like poison and chaos interactions. -Crafting is gambling. It's not crafting. -Trading is worst than MMOs made in early 2000. It's like early low grade MMOs that opened a pop up web page as a store. The web page is already a disguised auction house, why not just make on in game and call it a day? -The devs not knowing their own game. Some people were happy when the devs told ''we don't know'' in the interview, but for me it sounded more like ''we don't know what were doing''. As a product owner myself, it's alarming to not know your product and basics of what the architecture of the game is. -Radio silence of the team. I kick-stared many games that are A LOT more proactive than GGG with POE2. Is it early access with a changing mindset or a beta where the game is already almost finished in this state? Hell, even POE1 had weekly changes and the forum was not a GGG ghost town. Last bumped on Jan 29, 2025, 11:36:30 AM

Game should have been reset ever since item dupes were confirmed.

" It's as if they worked on the game but then someone came in and said 'stop it - just copy everything from poe1 and release already'. |

" I mean most of the people who have stopped played for multiple hundreds of hours. For an EA game that was already described beforehand as being only about 50% complete, I would say the retention is very good. I can't think of another EA game that has ever had that kind of retention a month in. Most of the crafting isn't even in the game yet. They stated in the last interview how none of it is really in and a lot of crafting will be implemented over time. Saying there is no crafting is just repeating what is already known. Saying the game needs a soft reset it not a good way to fix the issue. Smaller balance patches more consistently would be better, as a reset would drive away a large amount of the players who they are trying to bring in. A lot of people haven't done much of the endgame, because most don't have the time to. It's designed to be more new player friendly. Doing something like a reset is completely contradictory and would hurt the game in the long run more. I'm not saying the game is perfect by any means, plenty of issues, but only 2 months in I think they need more time. PoE1 was bad for years. No reason to think their second game wouldn't need adjusting. Anyone who thought differently set themselves up for disappointment and needs to lower their expectations for a game not even released yet. |
