How to make endgame great - part 1 bosses
Hello community.
While the boss fights are currently the highest quality content the game has to offer, there is still much that can be improved: 1) I really like the mechanic that some bosses get new abilities with higher difficulty levels. Expanding on this could increase the long term motivation of boss hunting: If every boss had 4 difficulty levels and each of them grants them something new that significantly changes the fight: like new abilities, a new phase, new terrain, new AI - exploring that and needing to be aware that the boss could do something new this time would stay exciting for a long time. Maybe the difficulty progression then should be unlocked and limited per passive tree, but go up independently for each boss (+1 difficulty level each time you defeat it). 2) Boss maps should focus more on the boss, so there should be significantly less normal enemies (maybe even just a room with 3 challenging rare packs and then a door leading to the boss). 3) Currently I meet the same few bosses over and over again - like the druid from early act 1 or the candle monster from late act 1. I thought there are already 40+ in the game, so that shouldn't happen. It would be better if more different bosses would be encountered instead of repeatingly the same few. 4) Bosses die too quickly endgame - players outscale their hp with good builds. Their hp should be significantly higher and player damage of overperforming builds needs to be toned down. This way the player can experience all the bosses abilities and phases. In addition to that I whish there to be a passive tree skill that allows for even longer boss fights, so that players who want it can enjoy an epic, challenging fight. 5) Some of the bosses feel too simplistic and could get more complexity added in endgame. Feel free to share your ideas how to improve the endgame boss experience. Last bumped on Feb 5, 2025, 6:44:36 AM

Bad idea.
It is waste of time and effort, that can be put elsewhere. With the current builds, the boss dies in seconds. (Sometimes less) We do not see his current skills, and you want people to waste time on 200 more skills, that we wont see either. No logic at all. |

You didn't read my post, did you? I addressed this issue in point 4.

" Point 4 is plain and simple science fiction. It has been the case with POE 1 EA. It has been the case with the years that came after the EA - nothing changed. It is the case with POE 2 AE. It will be the case with the years that will come. You cannot "tone" down builds. If you tone down top builds, it means all the regular guys are going to play some other game. For GGG to "sell" their product, the product has to be accessible by the average person. And the average person is not too smart. That person doesn't know math. Doesn't know how elements of the game interact. Doesn't even read the in-game description of skills and gems properly. The game HAS TO be accessible to that person. And the gap between that person, and the top players is just... huge. So you cannot design a skill that does the same with WRONG choices, AVERAGE choices, and THE BEST POSSIBLE choices. So, you let those top players do what they want. And you sell your micros to the average people. Everyone is happy. But the situation remains as it is now. Go in the arena - stun the boss in one second - collect loot. Last edited by EightInchFloppyDisk#2190 on Jan 27, 2025, 4:13:55 PM

I don't believe they put so much effort into boss design to have them killed in a few seconds. That PoE 1 was that way, doesn't mean PoE 2 has to be that way.
If the game is too hard for the average player, there can be difficulty levels below the current one and everyone can play on their own diffictuly preference. I'm pretty sure the average player prefers having a real fight with his average build over having to copy a meta build to complete the boss encounter by basically skipping it. |

I'm on HCSSF and i see every boss's ability just fine thank you.
In trade leagues, they couldn't fix one-shotting bosses in poe1 after over a decade because it's simply impossible. Simply increasing their HP will be a massive middle finger to off-meta and ssf. Last edited by LaiTash#6276 on Feb 5, 2025, 6:20:34 AM

In short:
You've gotta do better, GGG. You've gotta step up. |
