[Inspirational rant] The game without the Regal Orb (and Greater Essences)

IMPORTANT PREFACE: I'm only writing this because the current direction with an abundance of Greater Essences is going to fuck over dropped Rare items, which is the last thing I wanna see. Literally nothing else matters for me.

PoE1 worked because of all the spam. PoE2 still needs to find itself. I hope GGG comes up with something smarter than what I'm saying - they've done it before several times and left me flabbergasted.
With ONLY that in mind:

New concepts:
- You can't upgrade from magic to rare ever.
- If essences stayed, white items are just superior to magic. Past that, white and magic items are contained in its own system. Maybe with 50% more modifier effect - I hear that worked well in D2.

- Rare items would literally only be obtainable through white and rare drops. White items could be scarce, seeing as the focus should be on rare drops.

Superior system because:
- You can introduce as many essences to craft quality magic items as you want.
- You can introduce powerful crafting systems that only relates to magic items.
- This would lift up the bottom of gear, with people having very strong magic items. It would probably almost completely invalidate magic ground items.
- Rare items, being the chase items, would be much more controlled than now. Them being weaker with more potential is the perfect state, seeing as you have more to grind for and it's not a problem power-wise because you lifted up magic items to fill that initial role.

Final thoughts:
- Possible to let magic items have 3 mods; not sure if I'm a fan.
- Possible to let magic items have 50% mod effect.
- This is closer to what D2 had, in the sense that you aren't blurring the lines between rarities as much. Gear should not be unmodifiable like in D2 though because that hinders progression to the point where you just settle for mid gear.
