Yeah wands and staves give skills; while everything else does not.

And those skills are mostly useless, since they are lvl 18 at max.

You mean 19 at max (currently, maybe later it will be possible to get higher ilvl gear), and they do get the + to skill gem level stuff, so I don't see how they are useless

What would you socket into them? +Lightning Damage? +attack speed?

The problem is wands, sceptres, staves are not actually 'weapons'. Just like foci are not shields. These items are basically 'stat sticks' They don't actually have any of the stats weapons have- no damage, no attack speed, no crit chance, etc. They are somewhere between an armor piece and a weapon.

They might add the ability to socket them in the future, but they will require a completely new line on the runes and cores. But, for now, not happening.

Going out on a limb here, but... maybe they would socket in the same stuff people socket into their weapons? I think you're putting too much weight into the jpegs of what it is, instead of seeing them as arbitrary rules set in place. There's a useless two-handed fishing rod with sockets in the first game... and most likely in this too... Saying things aren't weapons is meaningless, although I think you meant to include "martial," and the game considers them one for all intents and purposes; why they very clearly specify the word martial.

The item's flavor does have an impact on how it performs in-game, though. The jpg justifies the item's rules in the Wraeclast setting. Bows shoot arrows; foci channel magical power; maces and axes slam the ground and create huge earthquakes (apparently).

That said, I definitely wouldn't be opposed to wands and staves having sockets. It's not like real-life people don't carve little holes in their walking sticks and plug gems in there.

Because the game is not balanced around being able to socket wands and scepters. This is a design choice that makes perfect sense, no need to rage about it.
