Blood Mage is a Good Class -In Theory
Okay I recognize that until we get more spells the class wont feel that good to play, in fact, it feels awful to play, to the point of dropping the game completely, the 2 builds which are possible do not feel right or fun, one is D.D. and the other is Hexblast, due to the minion behavior D.D. doesnt feel any good and due to the heavy cost with low area coverage especially without heavy investment, hexblast doesnt feel good to play either.
These skills mostly belong to the necro and occultist archetype respectively. I have seen also variations of blood mage with builds mostly played by other classes which are indeed broken, however those do feel like a waste to play with blood mage. Blood mage was released without its skill gems and has a forced passive which technically nerfs the class the moment we pick it. This while not being able to switch, feeling trapped in our own class. The class needs a lot of help, and the problem is that if someone doesnt know any better and level one, they are unable to switch to infernalist if things go wrong. Thats 40 hours of first campaing wasted, it is an early access so we should at least be able to switch ascendancies, even if that means doing the trials again. As for the class, being given life remnants as a forced choice feels awful, including the notables not providing anything for the class that may feel dinstinct or effective. The same critical damage bonus can be achieved with a few notables or items without sweat. Only in comparison Infernalist feels broken. When I first picked the class, on a first and obviously non-spoiler walkthrough I realized way later that it wont be what I expected from a blood archetype. The idea behind the archetype is exciting and acts as a trap in this early access, the idea of a very tanky mage that can use their own life to damage or the life of others to heal. Unfortunately it doesnt work as of right now as there are clearly missing weapons and skills, and who wouldnt want to play a claymore or sword wielding vampire, really. I really hope this gets some attention. PS: Relying so much on crits feels like a boring design mechanic. Last bumped on Jan 26, 2025, 6:23:36 AM

The Crits+ grabbing health orbs from dead enemies really hints that the class is probably supposed to be some kind of close range/melee mage kind of thing. We'll have to see what kind of skills and stats Daggers get once Shadow gets in the game.
