Playing true HYBRID characters?

hi

I'm new to PoE and enjoy it a lot. I'm coming from D1, D2 and D3 (didn't play Diablo 4 because there is no Mac version). That means, I am not a newbie to ARPGs.
Right now, I'm playing a Lightning Ranger. Almost done with the campaign and have no problems so far.

BUT … there is one thing that I often miss in these games. And that's hybrid builds where I can change skills/attack types for specific situations. Like melee weapon for Bosses and bow for clearing the map.

Are there any good hybrid builds in PoE?
I mean, why do we have two weapon slots? :D

I don't need to make a gazillion dps and clear T16 maps in seconds or kill uber bosses with closed eyes. I'm fine with playing early end game maps with FUN.

My lightning ranger start to become a bit boring because there are no variations of attacks. Sure, bosses can be tricky and it is of course challenging, but that is not enough for me.

Maybe there are already guides for such builds but I've missed them. I'm new to the game and don't really understand the titles of these builds since I don't know all the skills and terminology yet.

Hi, I'm trying to do the exact same thing! I don't know if I'd say my build is good, but here's my experience.

I chose a Mercenary (Gemling Legionnaire) with the thinking that would be the most versatile class. There are nodes that increase raw stats and for gems lets you use your highest stat for the requirement for any gem type.

I was going to try Mace/X-bow, but the build didn't go according to plan. I ended up going dual wield maces w/ molten strike for my main attack. I still have the x-bow, but I rarely use it, mainly just for bosses with extra fire damage resists where I use oil grenades.

So for right now I'd say no, there isn't a good reason to play a hybrid build, but once more weapons are introduced I'm planning on trying out another melee weapon for melee attacks and keeping dual wield maces for my ranged attack.

Here's my build. One thing I'd also say, I wouldn't say this build is META, I'm a noob at PoE2, but it's strong enough to cruise through T15 maps.

*For some reason my stats are off in the builder, it's stronger then it looks

I take what I said back, I think it might be viable. I changed to dual wielding 2h hammers and think it's a far better build then I was using before, the extra 500 health from stacking strength is a large survivability increase.

You could probably dual wield staves in a similar build (maybe) and it would work, but I haven't tried it. Monk melee attacks are too magical in nature for my tastes, I'm going to wait for other weapons to be released.

thanks, but I'm still on PoE 1.
There is no mac client yet.
