overkill seems dumb
hello,
i may be misunderstanding things here, but it seems that the overkill feature is practically useless. based on the description, i first have to do at least enough damage to go over the enemy's health bar by at least 20% IN A SINGLE HIT, and only 17.67% of the damage THAT I DO OVER THE MAXIMUM affects surrounding enemies. so for example, if the enemy has 100 health, and i hit it it once for 60 points, then again for another 60 points, it means i do 20 points of "overkill" damage, but only 17.67% of this damage affects other enemies, meaning that nearby enemies only get hit for 3.5 points, and only if they are close enough to matter. 3.5 points is just over 5% of a normal hit in this example. this is the same as buying a chocolate bar for a dollar, and getting 5 cents back, but only if there is another chocolate bar nearby that i want to purchase. this is a dumb skil, as it's not going to noticeably affect the new enemy's health bar at all. please make this skill actually useful. thanks. -az Last bumped on Jan 25, 2025, 9:30:33 AM

I guess you talk about herald of ash which is indeed total garbage.
Overkill is powerful if you know how to make it good. Known example, trampletoe boots + hammer of the gods + shield wall. Trampletoe boots do 30% overkill damage as hit damage, shield walls have like 10k life at higher level, hammer of the gods can do over 1mil damage per hit easily. So you basically getting 990k overkill damage, so boots cause each segment of wall to deal like 300k damage, which is huge, just 3 wall segments double damage of hammer of the gods. |

Overkill as a mechanic is usually tied to Herald of Ash. Overkill + Herald of Ash turns white mobs into walking bombs that cause a chain reaction of explosions when you kill them. It helps clear regular monster mobs faster but thats the only thing it does.
