Difficulty Balance
Given the last update, which nerfed several situations where players were getting one-shot, balance needs to be discussed more.
Recently I felt nostalgic and replayed a few really old titles, from Atari and Master System times. They are really hard, but felt rewarding when you finished them. This is the feeling I hope Poe2 can catch, and that some of the nerfs diminished, even though many of them were justified. PoE has never been considered a casual game, and PoE2 will certainly not either, but lowering the difficulty too much may move away avid gamers and still not attract more casual ones, considering the game's complexity. It seems most bosses now will not one-shot anyone, since being one-shot is felt most times as unfair. So there is always time and resources to restore fully by using the life flask, and maybe rolling away for a moment. The problem is that, right now, flasks feel nearly endless. I don't think I'd ever out of charges on any decently leveled / geared character. I can enter any fight relaxed, because I don't need to learn the boss' attacks. Most of their moves don't matter when I can roll, flask, and start hitting again. I still wouldn't say the game is easy, but it's not hard enough to make me feel any adrenaline going into new situations. The direction GGG is taking can be good, removing unfair deaths, but to counterbalance, flask charges should be more strictly managed. If a player runs out of charges in a fight and still can't dodge / avoid attacks, they should die. Such a system would forgive a few slips, but punish repeated mistakes. In short, making flask charges a limited resource in practice, not just in theory, would make main fights more challenging while still fair, and much more fun. Players should expect to die several times when facing a new boss, until they learn its moves, otherwise there is no sense of accomplishment, no adrenaline and less satisfaction for the rewards offered.
