What is the point of having different classes?

Since every class can use any ability... what is the point of having different classes?

Is the ascendancy bonus the only difference?

This is the one thing that I love about PoE honestly. I hate that others make skills and or ailments are tied to classes.

example like If LE allows any ailment with any class it would be 100 times better imo.

I have a lot of fun trying to build things in PoE 1 over the years that most wouldn't think of trying. some did ok some was awful as you could imagine but makes it different and fun.
