If you let endgame devolve into POE1button then this whole thing is a disaster
So Mark and Johnathan waffled during the interview and the side of me that has already "lost" one "clear speed meta war" is understandably gun-shy about GGG Dev's waffling.
If they don't nerf the high end speed and damage, monster speeds/pack density and buff RNG to fit a slower paced endgame, what even was the point? All this work will have just been a huge waste at best a graphics upgrade with content downgrade to POE1: * Forking 2 into its own standalone game: pointless * Having two games you need to make leagues for: pointless unless you magically don't burn your players out on the dueling hamster wheels. (the only non-magical thinking way to do that is for the games to have enough variation to appeal to distinct audiences with some crossover, er go: slower paced ARPG and Space ship shooter ARPG) * Splitting playerbase making the zoomers think POE2 isn't for them for 6 years: OR 6 years of selling engaging combat then rug pulling the combat enjoyers into mindless zoom zoom. (ever hear the parable about the greedy monkey that drops what it has to catch what it doesn't have?) Keep the game as distinctive and they have a reason to be different games. * Multi button Skill design: pointless a bunch of time thrown away on design space that collapses into a singularity of mindless 1 button gameplay at endgame. * Monsters having tactics and special moves/Animations would be a pointless waste of effort: They're just dying instantly. * Bunch of animation work thats just thrown away, and no design space for future "engaging monsters". 1 button = space ship shooter gameplay. Shmups are famous for having XP globe enemies that do nothing but get killed. This is why POE1 has shmup gameplay. And now POE2 does as well. Please don't make a second redundant space ship shooter with an ARPG skin. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.
