Alternative Atlas scrolling mode. Quick jumps between the edges. And custom markers.

- Double click anywhere on the atlas should enable alternative scrolling mode. By default cursor is being put in the center of the screen and moving it away from the center would initiate scrolling in that direction. As cursor goes farher away from the center, the scrolling speed increases. And if you move it back in the center (more or less) the scrolling would slow down and eventually stop.

- Also put old-school "wind rose" in the corner of the atlas. Click on "N" point would move you to the North-most edge of the map. Click on "NE" would move you to North-East edge. And so on. This should help with overall navigation immensely.

- And lastly, let us place several custom markers around the map with ability to quickly jump there when needed. But don't make them crawl at the edge of the screen like "home" and Burning Monolith do. Just glue them in place somewhere. Actually, you can glue home and monolith as well. Why can't they be static?.. I think it's much better to alway know where exactly to click if you need to go there.
We should have this instead of checkpoints: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3677132

I agree atlas navigation can be made smoother. Honestly, I think just simply adding, like, 3 bookmarks that I can set and reset for different scroll locations would be a simple to implement (I assume) solution. This is how actual GIS software solves this, btw; we aren't reinventing the wheel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JWQXvsofx0

More can be done after that, but this would be a start.
+1 for attention this deserves
