New player feedback about 3rd ascendancy

The game has been really fun for the most part, many of the of the more frustrating things from the first few weeks already feel a lot better. I can say though I was ready to quit after dying on the last boss of sekhemas with my only barya that would have gotten me my 3rd ascendancy, I think its fine that I died and have to do another run, but having to farm to have to have a chance at that progression just feels bad. I hear about how the game is designed to be hardcore like the good ol' days. but this interaction made me want to stop playing. I don't mind having to do challenging content in order to unlock the higher tiers of power, but having to farm for the chance to do it feels terrible to me. I was frustrated with the honour system when i unlocked my first ascendancy, but i took it as a challenge and figured out how to avoid damage throughout the run to make sure my relatively bad build at the time could survive long enough to whittle down the boss. But, while that experience was frustrating at first, it became incredibly rewarding and satisfying when i overcame it. The disconnect i have right now running around low tier maps hoping for a barya/ultimatum to drop so i can try again, isn't fun.

imho

for third ascendency it should be done similarly the same with the first and second, where players can keep retrying with "no cost" as its part of campaign.

but once they complete it, they no longer can run it for free.

Wish they'd just remove Honor entirely... -- then I can finally ascend 1 of my 4 classes... >.<

actually i m FOR that idea too. someone proposed that for the first 3 ascendancies, as long as you havent got the 3 ascendencies, honour is irrelevant.

as long as you complete the trials "alive", you get to ascend.

but if you have no honour at the end, you simply get no other rewards.

i would add tho that the first 3 are "not too difficult", but you definitely have to work for it

usually players get most of their power from the first 2.

I think honour should just not be a thing, because it slaps the idea that the only way to go is playing a DPS. What are you gonna do with a thorn build?

tbh i think this is why GGG allowed us to have 2 options. sanctum vs ultimatum.

sanctum favours high dps, ultimatum "should" favour defense.

then again both can fuck player's defenses real bad due to bad RNG.

Both trial types are an exceptionally bad choice. Both are very RNG dependent with absolutely ridiculous modifiers and the honour system in ToS is total BS since it makes the trial way more difficult for certain builds than for others.

I wasn't a big fan of the labyrinths, but at least they were relatively fair towards all builds and very little RNG was involved.

I'd propose the following changes:

- Both trials work in the same way and only differ by the arenas, room types, afflictions/boons, rewards, etc.
- ToS gets rid of the honour system as well as the relics and the RNG dependent keys.
- ToC gains the option to chose the next arena and the possibility to gain boons during the trial.
- Both trials grant the player a chest key per stage. There are bronze, silver or gold keys as rewards depending on the difficulty of the room.
- Getting boons is less RNG dependent, you can buy them after each room or find them in the arena and the amount of resources you have for buying them depends on how well you did so far.
- Both trials always offer at least 4 or 5 choices of rooms/arenas with more varied options that suit different builds/playstyles, e. g. there are additional boss rooms if you prefer to fight a boss instead of doing a gauntlet.
- Boons and afflictions only apply to one room/arena and don't stack up.
- You can chose the room/arena where you activate your boon(s).
- No affliction is build-breaking. No boon is totally OP.
- There is only one "floor" for each ascendancy, the differences are in the length (4, 8, 12 and 16 stages would probably be fair), the general difficulty and the end boss. No more having to do the same easy ToS floors for each trial.
- The end bosses are always the same ones depending on the ascendancy.
- At the end of the trial, you get to pick your chests and there are always enough chests of each type to use all your keys on the ones you actually could use.
- On the other hand, there won't be any drops during the trial apart from the trial specific currency for boons.
