Maps Blacking Out After Leaving & Re-entering

Hi,

I don't know if this is supposed to happen but if I leave a map voluntarily, to say empty the inventory, then go back into the same map all the map is blacked out again. So, any area I uncovered is then covered over again. Surely this is not supposed to happen.
