To help new players get into mapping and used to it, GGG should allow mutli portal usages. This however will be gated behind group play as well. If group play occurs, depending on the number of people in the party, the portal usages will be limited. Overall, since portal can be open & closed, they should just open X amt of portal base of the tier map & number of player in the group.
Suggesting the following:
- white tier maps (tier 1 thru 5): should open 6 portals for the players to use so that new players can die in the map & not get penalized for it. Since loot drops are gated behind higher tiers maps, the lower tier maps wont allow them to get more rewards vs the risk factor.
- yellow tier maps (tier 6 thru 10): should open 3 portals only. since the new players should be more used to the gameplay by now, they will have least of a chance to complete the maps in 3 tries. if group play have more than 3 player, the the number of portal open will be the same for the number of each player. this will gate them to only having 1 portal per person.
- red tier maps (tier 11 to 16): should open only 1 portal. players should have gotten a good grasp of the gameplay at this time and are to except harder difficulty. this will provide them a dps/def/gear ck to ensure they are not dying.
Group play:
- Increase # of portals: to prevent player to joining & then leaving to just increase the number of portal, portal will not allow access for players to join again if they die and there are still portals leftover.
- Group play on white tier maps: rules from yellow & red tier maps will apply to prevent abuse of group magic find on low level maps.

I stand with the 1 portal idea... but this right here is an amazing compromise. If they ever sway this is how it should be.

My main character rarely dies in maps, but I still think they should have used the same rules as in POE. You have a portal, you get to use it. Portals don't disappear on death. The specter of losing your map upon death detracts from the experience. Its always at the back of my mind. Hardcore already exists in this game for those that enjoy the specter of punishment upon death. This is POE not a souls game. I don't play souls games and they have made it too much like one.
