PoE 2 Map Design Bad
What's up with all the narrow, maze-like, clutter-filled map design? Why is this the main design direction for PoE 2?
The map layouts are the main reason endgame feels boring and really tiring, imo. When I'm seeing another Cavern, Grotto, Vaal <anything>, Sump, Mire, Crypt, Backwash... all I'm thinking is; nooo, not this turd again. I just did an Untainted Paradise 'unique map', thinking this will be epic, right? But no, it's a cluttered maze with narrow paths, just like the rest of them... -_- When night falls She cloaks the world In impenetrable darkness Last bumped on Jan 11, 2025, 1:36:38 PM

It's very worrying for the future of the game tbh. It gets exhausting FAST.

Here's one of the best maps in the game - Headland (spawns only around copper citadels) and how most maps should look and be laid-out;
![]() * clean navigation (no clutter in your way or in your face) * good contrast (you can distinctly see what's what) * rather compact and not very big and labyrinthine * gorgeous to look at This map being rather rare doesn't make me appreciate it more - it makes me hate the rest of the common ones more :) --- Doing league mechanics (Ritual, Breach, Expedition) feels bad in most maps, because most maps are a narrow cluttered mess or a spaghetti labyrinth mess. The game has been slowed down by not having (cheap) movement skills, no need for maps to be in our way too. When night falls

I like Forge, Fortress, Oasis and some map with beach, pretty straightforward with not much backtracking. The worst map are the one with levers to open, the one with flowers and basically any with invisible obstacles and narrow spaces. Breach is ruined on such maps.
For some reason you can fast travel to Temple of Chaos, but you can't to hideout from there. Another strange design choice. Last edited by Gosen#5296 on Jan 11, 2025, 1:34:22 PM

Yeah, I made a post earlier and it didn't get much traction (0 responses). Maybe I was whining too much, or worse; maybe there's just too few of us that feel this way. One thing is certain; while this is OK for now, it WILL make players burn out in their second or third league much faster. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
