Breach Freeze = Loose all loot and map

This is probably the 5th or 6th time it happened and I can't figure out what the deal is. Breach starts, I notice some jitter/stutter then everything get's stuck. My ping is fine but can't move or go to character select. Only option is to exit to login screen. However, if I do that, I lose all portals and the map and stuff I had looted into my inventory is all gone. This is pretty frustrating and annoying.
