Serious Feedback & Suggestions for Improving the Current Trading System in Path of Exile 2
1 . The in-game trade chat is completely useless now, especially with the existence of the "Currency Exchange," the official trading website, and Discord servers. Most of what happens in the trade chat consists of players trying to scam others, either by posting ridiculously overpriced items or deliberately underpriced ones. This exposes the issue of resellers/scalpers who treat the game as a purely economic simulation.
2. A possible solution would be to make items tradable only 1-2 times at most. This approach has worked well in other games and would significantly reduce reselling. Additionally, it would help curb the activities of bots and external currency-selling websites since their profitability often hinges on resellers fueling the economy. Path of Exile has always been seen by some as a "market simulation," but Path of Exile 2 aims to distinguish itself from its predecessor. Introducing measures to address these issues could help build a fairer, more enjoyable experience for all players. Personally, I’ve been discouraged in the past by how much trading dominates the game for some players, with the focus shifting away from gameplay to converting currency into real-world money. That’s genuinely disheartening. Over time, I’ve seen players in many games forget the true meaning of fun. Instead, they create frustration for themselves and others by turning everything into a grind for profit. In Path of Exile 2, with its growing casual player base, these frustrations are becoming even more evident due to the trading system and the behavior it encourages. For example, it’s not uncommon for players to list items for 5 Exalts, only to relist them for 10 Exalts later in an attempt to exploit others' desperation or greed. This behavior not only fosters frustration but also deters new and casual players. A regular auction house could help avoid this issue by preventing players from changing item prices once they’re listed. Of course, some traders are simply inexperienced, which is part of the game’s learning curve. No one has much sympathy for players who die constantly because of poor builds—learning is an essential part of the experience. However, when virtual "money" is involved, people suddenly develop sympathy, especially when they’re benefiting from someone else’s mistakes. Scamming or exploiting others seems to come far too easily to many. Overall, we’re seeing more and more players leaving the game, not only because of the lack of new content but also due to the trading-related frustrations. This is a stark and unfortunate contrast to Path of Exile's earlier days. Lastly, influencers also have a significant impact on the in-game economy. It’s not unusual for certain builds or guides to result in entire markets being wiped out, with items later being resold at exorbitant prices. This can be addressed in the ways suggested above: restricting trades or implementing a more structured system. Thank you for taking the time to consider this feedback. the biggest problem with trading in this game isn't the trade mechanics, it's the palyers.
This is a beta, and they are playing like it is for keeps, this shit is getting voided in 6 months ish. Making stuff bound in any way would only make prices go up...it's a shit idea and one that i am glad GGG have recognized as being shit. FYI, scamming is hard to do if you pay attention and even better it IS bannable despite what the idiots say, it's not an immediate ban bust something that is build up to. At the end of the day GGG give you the tools to avoid a scam with item trades, if you fall for it, sucks to be you but you should still report it as it will add a flag to the scammers account and will eventually lead to a ban if the scammer continues to fuck people over Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi
