Steam and PS5 account not shared progress?

Bought two copies of EA for steam and PS5. I thought I had read that I would be able to link the accounts and play on PC and then if I wanted to chill on the couch I could load up the PS5 and login to pick up where I left off from my steam progress? I the PoE website shows I have both linked but PC and PS5 are treated as separate accounts.
