Hailstorm Rounds Quality deserves a re-work
The mercenary skill Hailstorm Rounds needs to re-examine the bonus from quality upgrades.
Currently quality for this skill awards extra loaded bolts. However this doesn't make sense for how the skill works, and is likely intended to be used. You passively accumulate charges, up to a cap of 20, which are then all fired off when shooting a bolt. You then need to wait to accumulate more. I believe the intended use here is to use the skill in rotation with a main skill or skills, as staying on the skill and re-firing isn't a viable play-style. Extra bolts for this skill allow you to fire the skill of again before re-loading, however, were you to do this, you'd only be firing off maybe 1-5 bolts that have accumulated, rather than the full 20 you'd charge up while using other skills. It doesn't make sense. There could be a number of different viable upgrades for quality for this skill. An obvious example would be higher charge cap. So instead of the base 20, max quality would add, maybe, 5-10 more. Another option would be for quality to upgrade the explosion radius of the bolt impact. Anything other than the current implementation would be great, as it's a neat skill that def can have a place in rotation, but currently feels gimped. Last bumped on Feb 20, 2025, 5:21:12 PM

Ay, know this post is way old, but it made me look more into it. Apparently it was bugged at the time, and since has been fixed so we can store up to an additional 5 bolts.
If you're interested in the skill as well I'm working on a Chronomancer variant. If you equip a crossbow in both weapon slots, they will both be able to stack Hailstorm Rounds separately letting you fire off one (upwards of 30+ bolts per use), followed by another. You can then Emergency Reload and get BOTH stacks back. Sadly was misinformed, after getting to 41 on a chrono, Emergency Reload only reloads the active crossbow's stacks. I figured Chronomancer would pair well with this, take the free slow and recoup
Spoiler
(if you like the skill, you can opt for Temporal Rift instead, but I'm not a personal fan of it)
At minimum if we don't get any extra resets, at 30 bolts minimum, in one rotation of all our skills we'd be able to drop 180 rounds from our Hailstorm Bolts. Stack some reduction to keep cooldowns low when Now and Again doesn't pop and you're golden. Projectile Speed also helps the hailstorm round's "Fire rate". For bosses I'd find a way to freeze them first just to guarantee as many hits as possible. Last edited by PurpleBlades#5961 on Feb 25, 2025, 11:08:30 AM
