Two handed mace and shield plus dual wield two handed maces (with giants blood)

How the heck do I assign support gems to both mace strike's (two handed + shield) uses the two handed mace strike icon, and dual wielding 2 handed maces uses the dual wield mace strike icon

Why won't the support gems be accessible to both configurations?
