Being a poe1 vet taught me to always move away from anything you just killed. I do it reflexively now.

Give it a couple of seconds before moving back in and watch your life globe (you can train yourself to watch it out of the corner of your left eye) because despite what anyone says, there will be a puddle of death you can't always see at times.


The issue is not moving away, the issue is not seeing what killed you in the first place
(Green/Brown map, Gray mobs, and getting body blocked by some random shit on the ground) and further more not getting told wtf killed you.

BTW with 2699 life 1600ES and 85% Evasion you should not die to a random death animation or a purple orb in the first fuckin place.

Why build defences when you get raped anyway?

I didn't play PoE1. I find this kind of thing just... confusing? Like, while it is an additional challenge, it's not that fun. You either remember to reflexively move away from things you kill or forget and sometimes get 1-shot. It also slows down the game for melee in an unsatisfying way. Very busywork.

It was hated by absolutely everyone in poe1, they changed the graphic effect on ice/fire/lightning explosions like 15 times over the years too to make it more visible.
Poe2 triples down on on death effects, not only from archnemesis rare modifiers(controversial system which added some lazy and uninspired monster modifiers, including more on death effects and time wasters), but they added like 30 monsters with prebuilt on death explosions.
A "simple" solution i use after dying 200+ times to after death effects when looting and not looking for purple following orbs is-
step 1: dont insta die to after death ice bomb effects ( this one happens 50% of the time the other 50% you just die live with it open new waystone).
step 2: after rare mob dies dodgeroll 7 times away from its corspe, more dodge rolls keep you in shape!
step 3: count to 11 (at your pace) before you reaproach the corpse of the dead rare to start looting
step 4: Profit!

The on death events when you kill bosses/rares are a big FU to players: You have worked hard to kill that boss but we want to make sure you can't enjoy the effort!

I too learned in POE1 to run away after a boss fight. Not fun.

The most frustrating part is if the rare mob has followers that have the same on death explosion. You kill all and everywhere around you those explosions start to go off, no way to dodge out in time. I hate this.
