I found 1st copper citadel and i killed the boss it started lagging and kicked me out, portals gone

Why do portals close when this happens. I was trying so hard to farm enough currency for upgrade and when I find 1st rarest citadel AND LITERALLY ALREADY MOUSING OVER 2.5 DIVINE WORTH FRAGMENT THIS HAPPENS
